View Full Version : Dealer Price on 6CD Indash
I almost had a heart attack this morning. I called the dealer to get a price on the 6Cd unit that is standard on the 2010 Gt. Jaysus! he quoted $780 for the body and $480 for the face plate. so $1260 + taxes. I needed the cost for insurance purposes. I am installing an aftermarket head unit and I wanted the cost of the OEM in case they wanted to add to my premiums for an aftermarket.
Needless to say when I told them the price of the factory unit there was no question, the insurance agent was as shocked at the price as I was. This is highway robbery for a crappy head unit.

No one stole his head unit. He bought a double din and took out the stock one. But the insurance company wanted to know how much the stock one cost.
It's smart to call your insurance company and tell them about it, in case of a break-in or total theft of vehicle. That way you will get reimbursed for it.
But wow, that price sounded fine, until you said the faceplate cost another $500. Wtf?! It's a POS plastic that sits over the electronics. F-off! That's absurd!
Dealerships would make more money if they didn't charge you out the ass on all their parts. People would actually be willing to go to the dealer to buy stuff!

No NO the face plate has the printed circuit board that contols the unit attached to it, the factory head unit is actually two separate parts' You can buy the body minus the controls or the faceplate with controls. Either way it is a total rip off.
I only know this because my head unit was replaced under warranty and everything had to be swapped from one unit to the other. By the way if your unit is replaced under warranty you do not get a new unit you get one that has been Remanufactured.

actually, if owners with a single disc unit want to upgrade to the 6 disc unit, all they had to do was replace the head unit itself and a trim panel that's part of the face plate... all the trim panel has is just the extra load CD button and has "6 disc MP3" written on it... the entire control face plate does NOT need to be changed, so it's not as quite a shocker to those who want to upgrade from crap with more crap :chuckle
but if everything has to be replaced though, then yeah... I can see it totally up to $1200
also, the reason why his stock system is so expensive is because it is bose, the regular one is a little cheaper

Actually my system is not Bose, straight 6cd unit with six speakers, US I believe has bose standard in the GT, in Canada you had to upgrade to the GTE package to get Bose.
