So I recently moved into my basement and I found two 15 inch JL audio subs hidden behind some old boxes. I also found a kenwood KAC-929 amp, figure I would try install them but i'm not sure if the amp has enough power for the subs. Amp says its max power 1000 watt... idk im not too good with this kind of stuff so any help would be appreciated :P thanks in advance and if there are any questions please just ask.

Check for model information on the subwoofers and maybe try to input that on google so you can figure out exactly how much power they require.

If they were found together, good chances are that they were installed together at one point.
As long as the subs are about 400 watt max each then you should be fine on that amp. Any more and you risk not giving the subs enough power which will cause them to blow.

1000w MAX power usually means it's 300-or so RMS. IMO - not enough to power 2x 15" subs. Maybe 1 though

not necessarily.
I usually keep ALL my A/V stuff together (harnesses, speakers, enclosures, etc). I go through them so often - it's good to know where I can grab spare parts.

are they in 1 box or individualboxes? I would say just install 1 if its individual. The amp probably wont be able to power the 2 subs and they are 15". You will have no room in your trunk.

I actually talked to my brother, they are his but he said he had another bigger amp he had to throw out due to blowing it. So im not too sure if he had this amp with these subs, I don't think so. I obviously don't want to blow the subs so thanks for pointing that out, so ill try and look up what their max w is, thank you.

Thanks for the reply, it's 1 big box with both subs in it, I honestly never use my trunk and when I do its not for much so space isn't an issue, but installing 1 is a possibility... what if I got a cheap second amp that had like 1000w too or even 600 or something, would I be able to install both amps for the subs? sorry again for these questions I never been into this stuff, if its gonna cost me a ton more money to get these set up ill probably just end up selling them. Won't be worth it for me

Just looked up the specs on the KAC929
It's 2x 150w RMS - not strong enough to push those subs
You can wire 2 amps - but at this point, you're better off buying 1 good amp

I can get another amp for cheap, which may be a possibility, but I feel getting 1 good amp is going to cost too much, im thinking around $500, no? or is there a good one I can get for cheap?

Do you know if both of these subs actually work? You might want to test them before you go spend money on an amp or other stuff. IMO, if they do work, buy a single box and use 1 sub. 2 15" subs is A LOOOOOT of bass. Your gonna get sick of it. Use 1 sub with the amp you have and get a single box. Thats your best bet. You will have more than enough bass and you will enjoy it more. If you are running 2 massive subs with 2 amps you are probably gonna have to get a better battery and a capacitor and a deck.

Great advice!
+1 to make sure that your subs work and consider just using one as it's a huge 15"
I had a box with 2 x 12" and I later complained how I never had enough trunk space.

Yes, I just tested both subs the other day and they do work (one is missing the dust cover on the front though, not sure if that will pose an issue) and I was not aware I would have to possibly get a new battery or capacitor, thanks for letting me know, i'll look into that further though just to make sure. I love having my music loud when I drive sometimes, so i figured 2 15's would be great to bump music, but if you think it will be too much than maybe I will just hook up 1 sub since that is what alot of you are suggesting. I really appreciate the feedback and information, thank you.

Trunk space is not an issue for me, I never use my trunk. But I am taking into consideration hooking up just 1 of the subs.

I say just do 1 sub for now. If somehow its not enough (which it will be) then spend the money and get a crazy amp to power the subs and all the other fun stuff(capacitor, battery, etc). Personally I had 1 10" in my integra and it was more than enough for me. Different preferances for everyone. Try it first and see what you think.. Give it a few days or weeks.
