View Full Version : Sunroof leak?

So I took my car to the car wash yesterday and I go through my normal window closing routine (basically pushing every button twice to make sure all the windows and sunroof are closed). I get through the rinse and soap with no problem, and then the power rinse starts its sweep. It goes across the hood, up the windshield, on top of the car, and then suddenly I get sprayed with water!

Just a couple drops here or there in the interior, nothing serious, but the sunroof was closed. Should I be worried about a potentially bigger problem? Or is it a case of high pressure water getting in a little nook in the sunroof?

Either way, I'm a little freaked out. 3+ years of owning my car and numerous car washes later, this is the first time I've ever had water come into the interior.

Any suggestions on what it could be and whether or not I should be worried?

I'm not sure how the mazda 3 moonroof works exactly.. usually I think there are drains as the moonroof doesn't usually make a watertight seal???/
Dump a bucket of water on the roof see if anything gets wet.. It was probably just from the high pressure.

That happened to me once, and it never happened again. I would say that it's from the high pressure.

That's never happened with my aftermarket sunroof..........

But on topic there should be drainage holes so that the sunroof doesn't leak. Go by the dealer and see if its sealed properly as it may have rised a bit.

Completely normal when hit by high pressure spray straight down. The high-pressure forces the water through the seal, and it doesn't help matters that it also forces the sunroof down slightly. And if there is dirt along the seal that would help matters, as it would create tiny gaps.

Not to worry. It's the high pressure water getting through the seal. It won't happen everytime - only when the high pressure water hits the seal at a certain angle.

Yep it happens like those mentioned above. This has happened to me many times so I just close the privacy shade to prevent the water from spraying inside.

Good idea to give the perimeter inside and out a wipe before you go through..
