Hi all,
I'm looking at getting something that will give me iPhone and BT integration in my 2010GX... So I've started at looking at aftermarket decks.

Can anyone convince me of why I should spend the extra $300-800 for a double din? I hardly use google maps on my iPhone as it is, so I don't see a NAV system as a good investment. And I don't plan on watching movies while driving...lol.

So what would a double din do for me, other than add to my credit card bill?
Thanks.

With the new "integrated" looking stock stereos, aftermarket units look very out of place. I suggest getting a BT headset or sunvisor and iPod kit for the stock radio (aftermarket).

Aftermarket deck with a 2010? I thought about it too but then I looked at the dash and how an aftermarket deck would look. In my opinion, not well at all!! I have a GS so I have the BT already on the car and my Blackberry connects without issues both audio (plays songs off of my BB via Bluetooth) and phone!!
I'm in agreement with forcedregistration

See I'm on the other side of this argument I think a Double-Din unit looks fantastic in our cars and you can't really compare the features of a stock deck to an after market deck. I've installed many decks for people on this forum and they have all said how nice it looks and that it doesn't ruin the form factor of it at all.

I mean could it be any worse than a giant silver knob right in the middle of the stereo.

In terms of what unit I think you should get I'm biased for Pioneer and for the $800 price range you could get an AVIC-X930BT which is a fantastic deck. But be aware there will be an extra cost added to your project because you'll have to factor in a steering wheel controller / dash kit / power harness & antenna adapter for our cars.

But IMO and you can search on this forum after market decks are by far the way to go!

It'd be nice if the stock deck had an Ipod interface and USB port. However, the Bluetooth streaming audio mode eliminates the need for #1 (for Iphone and Itouch at least) and kind of eliminates the need for #2. The other solution for number #2 is to plug your non-Bluetooth player into the aux jack. However, if you like to keep music on a flash drive, this is not accommodated by this deck.

The only real reason to turf the deck is if you want to start building a system with some power.

Depending on costs, I was planning on possibly replacing speakers and adding an amp... However one of the local audio specialists I went to suggested I keep my HU and just add aftermarket BT/iPod integration kits, plus amp etc. (if anything to prevent praying eyes).
