Not like the extra gear does you much good on the newer 3's mileage is exactly the same no??

Wouldn't make much of a difference. The 6-speed's gears are closer spaced, and thus still does around 3200 rpm at 120 km/h, unfortunately.

Oh bummer, I assumed that would be one of the main reasons for a 6 speed.

Totally agree. The speed reaches ~3000 rpm at 120 kph.

And to OP, it's fairly normal, our cars have shorter gear ratios. Makes acceleration better. :)

Im able to keep my car ('07 speed3) at 2500 rpm @ 120kph...I leave the ramp in third gear and really try to stretch the gears to about 4500rpm before I change, sometime 5000, I figure the bit more aggressive acceleration getting up to speed all levels out when you can cruise with the rpm much lower. Thats my experience. Has anyone else had experience with this?

Lol for me to cruise @ 3000 RPM I need to be going 105. It's pitiful

Really? When I am going 120 I am at 3000 RPM exactly while in 6th

+1.... That doesnt make sense cause regardless of what rpm you switch gears at it all levels out according to speed.

i think at about 100 km/h in 5th gear i sit around 2700 -2800 rpm. @ 120km/h its around 3000 -3100 rpm

Why is it pitiful? That is just how the cars were designed. My girlfriends G5 cruises at 2000 RPM i think (in any case, much lower). Does it have any acceleration available to it? No. Is her car fun to drive? No. Is your car fun to drive? yes. Is the gas mileage much different? No.

3200 rpm is not that bad.
Try 4000+ rpm in a soft top (referring to s2000)

they are loud as hell at 4000 rpm.
sport exhaust system + softop + 4000 rpm = shitty highway commuter

3200rpm at 120KM? That's nuts. A 5-speed auto CSX/Civic hits 2600-2700rpm max. My EL (4 speed auto) hits 3000 at 120kmh. I never drive that fast for extended periods though. 105-110 is fine.

Gearing ratios are different between autos and manuals, and even more-so different between manufacturers.. My Montana cruises at like 2k doing 120.

3k @ 120kmh is what MOST vehicles cruise at, why is thay crazy?

the 6th gear ratio in the regular 2nd gens is 0.715, while the old 5 speed was 0.755... both final drives are the same (talking strictly only about what we got here, not what's "proper" for what really came with the cars overseas)... the rpms will still be lower at 120

S2000s' redline is 8K or 9K rpm.
The only other car around this price range to hit 9K rpm is the RX-8.
