hey i got a new alternator 2 weeks ago and the wires going to it today started on fire and cut themself in half can anyone tell me whats going on and whats the part number for the wire leading to it

Who did the install? They should be paying for it to be fixed since they did such a shoddy job the first time around

i did and eveythig was working great and i was getting the right voltage and then i was idling and it sounded like a sport bike was driving around me and the steering wheel with an exclamation mark showed up and the when i didnt hear that the light went out so i turned off car got underneath and the wire going to the alternator was in half it melted right apart

autozone....tow truck guy said its the regulator thats internal but theres a piece of paper saying theres no regulator inside the alternator its off the cars comp

it also came with a sheet of paper saying the regulator passed inspection

yea everythings been worrking great i got a cap and i was getting the right voltage i hooked it up to computer LAST SAT AND IT SAID EVERYTHING WAS GREAT NO PROBLEMS OR SHORTS

The voltage is regulated through the PCM. IS there a chance that the B+ wire was NOT securely contacting the alternator B+ terminal? This is the main cause of alternator failures. Or just a crappy part.

no i checked after i saw what happened and everything was still tight..is there poss a recall for this

i had the computer thats like 400 from a friends garage hooked up to it caquse i was checking voltage and for shits and giggles i was checking to see how close the capacitor reading was to the computer and i read it for both sets of codes the ones that may trip soon but havent happened enough times to set it off and read regular codes and it said eveerything was good

that's what you get for buying a vatozone part
half of their starters and alternators fail in no time

those wires are part of the engine harness and it's about $500 for it from the dealer, so I'd start hunting down a wrecked 3 if I were you
