I just ordered a pair of 68 SMD 9005 bulbs off eBay to replace my stock halogen DRL's. What do you guys think of those ?

Try to find one's that use 5050 LED's. They cost more, but they are significantly brighter.

What year is your car? If it's for the 2004-2009, I don't think they will work (meaning they will fit but won't light up).

sorry...i meant for 2007-2009, I don't think they will work. Not sure about 2004-2006 though.

the ones with 5050 LEDs are only 18 SMD, the one he bought are 68. the 18 5050 SMD will be brighter then 68 3528 SMDs?

Are you sure?
There are a few members here with 2010+s running LED DRLs - Chan7 and Jackal come to mind. I was planning to buy these sometime but never got around to it, plus i wasn't sure if I wanted to lose my high beams or not

The 2010+ will work. It's the 9005 LED for 2007-2009 that will not work.

really how come?

I guess they were designed different between the model years. My understanding is that on the 2007-2009, the DRL lights work by connecting the current in a series in both directions and since LED once lets the current pass in one direction, it won't work.

I learned the hard way as I purchased 9005 LEDs for my 2008 Mazda3 and they didn't light up. I even then bought a harness for it later and it still didn't work. I think If put it to high beams, they did light up but I can't remember if that was with or without the harness.

Mine is an '07 :( I really hope they work. I bought a pair for the highs (9005) and a pair for my fogs (9006). Worst case scenario, I'll put em up for sale to members who have 2010+ cars.

These LED DRLs are great. They don't cause frosting on the lens and they are a nice white colour. They are still going strong.

Yeah, keep us posted. The 9006 for your fogs will work but I'm not familiar with 2010+ cars so I don't know if they use the 9005 or H8 bulbs.

So if you change the DRLs to these bulbs, you lose your high beams?

The 2010+ uses H11 for DRL's and 9006 for the fog's, referencing from: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/AutomotiveLighting/LampReplacementGuide/AutoLRG-Results.htm

But I've got H8's from ebay for my DRL and its works perfectly fine. I've also inquired to CorkSport about their LED DRL kit (currently used as my fogs) if it can be used as DRL too, but never got a response.

Yup, for 2007-2009 the high beams are connected in series when acting as DRLs. So each bulb gets half voltage (~6.5V), and current is reversed through one of them. You reversed a couple of wires on the lamp sockets to get the voltage the right way around for the LEDs, but they would still only be running at half voltage. Regardless, not worth losing highbeams for this.

Seeing as I don't have drl due to having hids as high and low beam it there a way to split the drl wiring from the harness to incorp something like this for drls.

I moved my DRL's to my fogs, just have to cut a few wires and relocate them... now if i can only find the thread..... but the beauty thing is your DRL's run full voltage.... see if i can find the thread and maybe update the pics...

Those pictures suck but the steps allow for full voltage DRL's in your fogs

Received the LED bulbs. I guess I got what I paid for; Horrible quality, the plastic part on the bulbs are made of the cheapest plastic, you can feel it and even though I ordered 9005, I received another size which does not fit. I also could not test if they worked or not because the bulbs wouldn't even snap in, they just slid right out of the plug every time. Never ordering bulbs from eBay again.

I have sworn off buying anything more on fleabay, my last 3 transactions were all unmitigated disasters. To many scam artists on there now.
