hey there,
car info: 2006 GS hatchback, 5-speed, Fujita CAI, koni springs. ~90,000 km
today i went for a drive and noticed that a few times in second gear the car would sorta hesitate around 2300 through to 2500 rpm. The odd thing is that it happened sporadically, about 4-5 times throughout the drive. It was a descent little drive, about 50-60 km's total ( fall cruise through the forks :D ).

I don't think it was the engine bogging down or the way i was shifting because this happened after the clutch was released and the car was normally accelerating in 2nd, then at 2300 felt the car jerking a bit, then after 2500 it was normal again.

Other than that the car was 100%. Any idea what this could be? Anyone else ever have something like this happen to them?

sorry for the long-ish post, just trying to give an accurate description lol,

thanks,
-mike

I have had problems in second gear in both my mz3 automatic (there was a huuuge lag shifting into 2nd) and my speed (i grind when I'm going slow or when I'm driving hard no matter how long i ride the clutch 2nd gear is jerky like I'm dropping the clutch too fast)... Maybe mazda has problem making 2nd gears? = /

Hmm, weird. The only type of jerking I get in second gear is if I let off the gas too suddenly to slow down. The car jerks about three times as I slow down.

Hope you figure it out before the snow hits!

I've had the same issue, only happened once or twice. Not really sure.

Have you checked your spark plugs lately? Remember in second gear, your in a 'heavy-load' mode of engine operation. Faultering plugs will cause hesitation. plus your near 90k.If you haven't changed your plugs yet, consider doing so.

he is right. i used to always experience an unpleasent shift from 1st to 2nd. but i changed my plugs at 101,000KM and noticed much smoother engine compliance with the transmission

the car had the original plugs from before I bought it, which was about 6-7k ago, so I got new ones and it does feel a lot smoother, pulls nicer too. hopefully that hesitation doesn't return, thanks again everyone.
