Hey guys, I just changed over to winter tires last week and after having them switched I noticed some rust/corrosion. I asked the guy who I bought the tires from and he said this is perfectly normal. It's a 2011 Mazda 3 and I've only had it for 3 months. Would you say this is normal for a car that's pretty new? Here's a pic:

That's normal. I had that when putting on my summers on. It bugged me for awhile, so I ended up getting some paint from crappy tire and brushed the area. Still holding up after the summer :)

Yup, surface rust on unprotected metal, very normal :)

It's normal. If it really bothers you, paint it.

Take a look at other (older) Mazdas running steelies - rust on that component is perfectly normal, as it is unprotected metal. It's not normally visible anyway, since the centre cap on alloys covers it, or adding a hubcap to the steelies similarly blocks it from view.

If you don't want to add hubcaps and it bothers you though, wire brush & sand it down, prime and spray overtop. Should hold up just fine that way... But be sure to protect your car from overspray. If having a rusty hub bothers you, getting spray paint on the rest of your car would really bother you.
