View Full Version : Auto Trans pops out of 4th in to 3rd, Auto light comes on

Hey ladies and gents, wondering if anyone has come across this and found a solution...

Over the past 3 weeks, when driving my 05, when in 4th gear, the transmission would suddenly shift to 3rd, then the transmission light would come on. After this happens, the car no longer shifts in to 4th, unless i pull over and turn the car off, then back on. This happens during highway driving and city driving.

Any thoughts? I will take it to a friend to check the error code, but until then any info would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think he's referring to his ms3, which is manual only.... his 2005 is the autotragic and has the trans problem, which is way out of warranty... usually failures like this are caused by failing electronics or wiring fault inside the transmission.... it's a relatively easy fix if that's the case... labour cost is another story

Pretty sure he has an NC6160 on the car if I recall...

Hey Jeff, TheMAN is right... unfortunately i do not ahve the extended warranty on the 05, and i thinik it's past 160k anyway. based on other transmission issues reported here, i assumed it may be electrical. I'll get the code read and go from there.

Thanks guys for the help and i'll update this thread when a solution is determined.

In the mean time, any other suggestions are welcome.

It's the "input shaft speed sensor" that's causing the issue.

TheMAN, is that easy to replace? is it an internal or external sensor?
