I'm bring my Mazda 3 2006 GS because the AT light is on. A friend ran the code machine and it came up with 7E9:A/T
Can any of you guys here help with what this means so when I bring it in I have the information with me.
Thanks for your help from a girl who hopes this isn't a huge repair bill!

Hmm, that's a weird looking code... I did a quick search and it seems that it could be from a scanner that's got a different coding system (check link (http://www.autel.us/downloads/AL%20309_manual_v1.17.pdf)). 7E9 basically stands for transmission (check page 18 on link)...
To help diagnose the problem further, can you elaborate a bit on what's happening to the car now?

I'll try to explain as best I can. In September I had my Transmission Oil changed & Oil. It seemed to be running quite smooth. My daughter was driving and she said the car (Auto) seemed to get stuck in 3rd gear. The AT light & engine light came on but shortly went out. The AT came back on a few days ago, engine as well but the engine went back out but the AT stayed on. The car has been driving great which is why I'm so confused. Good Mileage, trying to feel if there is any hesitation upon acceleration but I don't feel any.
I'm bringing it in today to a mechanic that I trust but I just wanted to prepare myself for $$$ and if when that AT light comes it automatically means big bucks no matter what.
The guy at my office with the code reader mentioned the same thing that the Code # looked weird to him as well. Thanks for any input.

I checked your link and that was the strange part he did diagnostic as shown on your link and nothing for the code came up. He made sure that he didn't erase anything so when I have it checked the info (if there is any) is still there.
Wondering if Spark Plugs can do this as that is the one thing I know hasn't been changed and I am at 149,000km (2006)
Did you put the right transmission fluid in?

Have a look at this link (http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=189542.0).. It seems somebody else had a similar problem.. I've read a few more but it seems that it's related to the shift solenoid. There are also cases where the transmission did not have enough fluid.. A few cases but also somehow related to the solenoid...
Have it checked out, a good mechanic can definitely tell you what the real problem is. Good luck and I hope it's nothing serious...

My error code was slightly different. I beleive it was 0719 or 0759... I don't recall exactly what it was.
Anyway, in my case, it's the "input shaft speed sensor" that's causing the issue. Seems that it's something that can easily be fixed.

Probably 0715.
