Ok so today I put on my winter tires (i did it myself). I went for a drive to check for anything weird. The car turned well, accelerated well, and at high speeds (130 km/h) everything was extremely smooth. Problem was then I had to brake. The car would slow down pretty well but the wheel shakes a lot! Even the car started to shake a little. Yesterday, when I had summer tires on, when I braked, there would be a small vibration in the wheel but rally nothing to worry about. But today, it just got bad instantly. I've changed the tires on my car many times in the past and never had this problem. I understand that my brake discs could be warped but how could there be that big of a change overnight?

Did you torque down the wheels?

It can't be this tires... He mentioned that the drives fine only when applying brakes. Rotors warped yes but he says their was a little vibration before and now it's really bad. Which means he Probally didn't tighting the wheels.

Do you have a torque wrench?

If so set it at 80ft and tighten the wheels.

You Probally didn't tighting the bolts... Go double check all the bolts

Thanks for the video schmatt. Should I go to a mechanic right away to get it looked at or can I leave this until friday? I have school the next 2 days and its about a 45km trip one way. Around 200kms give or take of driving.

Edit: I did do a quick check on all 4 before the drive and it seemed normal. I will go check again now but if a wheels loose, wouldn't the car vibrate at high speeds?

Like the vid said... too tight or uneven torquing can cause warped rotors... the latter is more common from my experience... it is easier to warp the rotors from uneven torquing with steelies than with alloy wheels...
when I bought my corolla beater, the brakes felt horrible... after I changed the tires and torqued the wheels properly, the problem pretty much went away after some time

80ft/lbs!!! Remember those books were written by engineer's do 90ft'lbs and make sure the rim face and rotor face are clean of rust and corrosion

Go to Canadian tire and buy a cheapie $20, bendy-bar type of torque wrench and re-do the nuts on your wheels. If that doesn't work, then you should visit the dealer.
