Well I don't know if any of you guys are like me.. but sometimes I love simple meals. Grilled cheese and tomato soup being one of my favorites. But sometimes I'm just too lazy to want to deal with the mess.
A few years ago I came across some snowboarder's or wake boarder's lazy man grilled cheese which was to toast the bread in the toaster, throw the cheese on and nuke it for 25 seconds or something.. but it wasn't the same without the bread being toasted with butter. So here's what I do:
- Lightly butter one side of the bread
- Put it in the toaster on a bagel setting so just the buttered sides get toasted.
- Then throw your cheese slices in and nuke it for about 20 seconds to help melt the cheese.
- Slice and serve. Or, add some microwavable bacon for some extra deliciousness :hawt

I've always thought about buttering one side and putting it in the toaster. Wasn't sure how it would turn out tho... plus then there's butter all over the inside of the toaster.
I really want grilled cheese now lol

Just don't load it up too much. It's something I thought about for a while too. Then tried. It turned out great, it did actually toast it pretty nicely. Just make sure its on the bagel setting, and if anything, it may take a little bit longer than usual. If the toaster pops and it just looks like melted butter with no golden toast.. then it isn't done yet.

Just tried this, and it came out great. Probably 80~90% as good as "real" grilled cheese, with 5% of the effort and <25% of the cleanup. :D
Thanks for sharing!

I for one am not too impressed with this post, Is nothing sacred? I believe that in my world I like to cling on to a little of the old times, I like my Martini's shaken and grilled cheeses , grilled. And further more why not.........I'm just kidding I. Totally trying this tomorrow. Lol.

My gf makes me inside out grilled cheeses'.
1. Toast bread x2
2. Place bread size area of cheese on pan (none stick ofc)
3. Let cheese melt a bit
4. Place toast on
5. Immediately place cheese ontop
6. Place lid on until cheese is almost melted
7. Repeat steps 2-4, and let cheese stick to bread.
8. Align bread beside each other in anticipation of the flip.
9. Flip piece #2 on piece #1.
10. Let melt together under a lid
11. Enjoy
Typed on my phone. I lost circulation in my right pinky. Someone better try this.

Glad you enjoyed. so there it is... 90% of flavour for 30% the effort and clean up.. thats a nice profit margin.. or would that be return on investment lol.
Hyperion, I will try yours. I'm a big fan of simple foods: kraft dinner, lipton's chicken noodle, hot dogs, hamburgers, french toast for dinner... I'm sure I'll enjoy!

haha.. ya normally I'm a man content with just cheese and ketchup on the side.. but I had 3 or 4 of those microwave bacon strips left so I went for it. It was a great grilled cheese considering it wasn't done on a frying pan :)

I've been doing this ever since I worked at McDonalds back in the days and that's how they make their grilled cheese...take two BigMac middles, toast and microwave with 2 slices of cheese in between.

How long does it take to butter two slices of bread and slap them in a pan? Seriously? I'll take 100% taste for basically no extra effort.

I'm impressed.
I've been doing this for 15 years. Many different ways. Even just shoved cheese between 2 slices of bread. Toaster oven, butter half way though and done.
I just assumed this was all common knowledge.
