I'm due for my first oil change for my 2011 GX. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good place I can bring it to. Is it recommended to bring it to the stealer for the first oil change?

Thanks

Where about are you? I had a very bad experience at one of the stealership for my first oil change. But I heard good stories for Avante mazda.

Ajax. Ajax mazda was okay in sales but not sure about the service. Is there anything special with the first oil change as compared to the next ones after?

If I would have another chance, I would do it sooner maybe after 1000km or so

You can see if you want to switch to synthetic or not. If you do, a lot of members bring their own oil.

The gen 2 3s are using synthetic oil. I guess my question is: can anyone recommend a good shop that can do good reliable oil changes for mz3s? more so that its the first oil change.

The other question I have is, will getting an oil change from another place other than the dealer affect warranty at all??

I believe if you keep your receipt and a record from the shop on what was done so when/if you need warranty you can prove that your car was properly maintained, you wouldn't have a problem. Many members purchase filters from the dealership (and keeps the receipt and do the oil changes themselves).

do the first oil change asap. i cannot stress that enough! :D, and its no different than future changes. for the gen 2's real simple, take out drain plug located further back at the other side, bottom part of the engine, take off oil filter which you reach through the plastic undercarriage, drain fluids, put back drain plug tighten snugly with a new crush washer, screw new filter in. plus its all fairly accessibile once the front end of the car is up high enough so u can get under. plus if u do it urself, u know its done rite. o yea, and add 5litres of awesome oil if a gt.

I was dumb enough to bring my car to Jiffy lube for an oil change around the first couple months i had the car, they used a plastic washer which cracked somehow, and i leaked oil very slowly... lesson learned, diy. :D

Actually dealer prices aren't that expensive from what I recall ~ 40 + tax? Got an oil change tomorrow at Avante.

Thanks for all the suggestions. A DIY is great if you have the time and tools (warm weather can help too). Though as what Jackal said, if its $40 plus tax I think its worth it to take it to the dealer. I'll probably do succeedin oil changes in the spring/summer.

QEW Mazda for the synthetic 0W20 oil change. Great dealer. They (Booter and company) will take care of you.

Ajax has good service, they changed the oil for me and gave me a complimentary car wash( during the warm months) since they wash the car outside.plus they were rated an A by the BBB.

Booked it with MoT for 0w20, but it's $75, thinking if i should give other dealerships a call..QEW is too far for me though :(

wow thats expensive. the oil itself is $25 total for 5l of 0w20 mazda syn. qew charges me around $30 tax in for the filter/labour.

you could go to street performance instead. just bring the oil from joe and ask jimmy for a receipt.

or do it yourself (not hard).

Great Idea Fayvir. Thanks

Tester11, Ajax Mazda quoted $70 plus tax but as long as its done right its probably worth it. I heard some horror stories when I lived in the US of Jiffy Lube techs screwing up a simple oil change.

I was thinking of Jimmy. Not sure though how busy he is for a simple oil change. I`ll also give him a call.

Gotta keep in mind that's 5w20 but the 2011 models use 0w20, which is more expensive.

Thats exactly what I paid for synthetic at Direct Mazda. It is reasonable and you get Mazda guys to work on your car.

My highschool auto shop ! haha kidding but realisticly, my dad's 08 f150 is at 140km on it and he's done every oil change at the mr lube by Victoria park and Lawerence. Great customer service and great people to deal with.

When I asked it was $10 more for the synthetic fill-up vs. dino.

Further, if you have a new car (which is what it sounds like you do), don't do it yourself. Yes, it costs more, but what you are paying for is a service record. Once your warranty is up, fill your boots.

As an additional note: don't go with the 15 minute oil changers. A trusted local garage or the dealership.
