I dont know which section this would be appropriate for so I posted it here because it is related to electric wiring and stuff.
Anyways, I currently do not have keyless entry and it costs way too much to do it at the dealer. I have found some places that would do it for cheaper but I was wondering if by doing that I will void any of the electrical warranty?
I remember asking the guy at the dealership and he told me that if I get it installed at a different place then I void some warranty. So if any electrical stuff goes wrong, they wont cover it under the warranty and blame it on my aftermarket installation (even if the button to open the trunk doesnt work).
What are your thoughts on this?

If you take it to a good shop, you should not have any issues. Dealerships will always tell you that you void some of the items covered under warranty and that's why you need a shop that really knows what they are doing.
Other than that, you should be OK.

IMHO - get a VIPER alarm but go to an AUTHORIZED DISTRIBUTER AND INSTALLER.
Not only is it a great product - but Viper alarms are also backed with a limited lifetime warranty.
So as long as it was purchased and installed by an authorized retailer (and you have the receipt to prove it) - even if that company closes up business, you're still covered by other authorized distributors for the warranty claim.
IIRC - you can get a Viper 5901 (2-way alarm/starter combo) for about $500 installed. As an added bonus, some insurance companies offer a discount for showing proof of the alarm installed on your vehicle

Could you recommend me some authorized places where I can get it installed?
I dont need a hi-fi system. Just a simple one with lock/unlock and pop trunk is sufficient. Dont need those fancy shamcy cra starters and stuff.

Audio heaven, auto links, select sound, and lake shore Krown.

Reviving an old thread..
Default User recommended Viper but what about Compustar? Is that a good brand too?
Also, I understand the perks of having a lifetime warranty if something goes wrong with the keyless entry but what if some electrical gets ruined that is not related to keyless entry. Wont Mazda refuse to repair it due to the fact that I had a third party fiddle with the electronics?

I've heard better things about Compustar. I've had both on my cars, and I'd say I'm more impressed with the Compustar. As for the repairs, the compustar comes with a warranty but the only thing you should have to worry about is not breaking the remote. All other wiring should be fine and problem free (if installed properly, of course ;)) All this info came from John at Auto-Links, who does a great job. Give him a shout. Hope this helps!
