View Full Version : Amp no longer powers on - possibly blown?

I was driving home today and my sub wasn't going off. Took a look and the power light on my amp is not coming on.

I tried re-wiring the ground and POS wires into the amp since they have pulled out in the past. Accidentally caused a spark when my allen key touched the POS terminal before I had the foresight to pull the fuse out of the POS wire at the car battery. I also noticed the fuse sparked when I pushed it back in.

Any ideas on how to tell if my amp is busted?

I'm thinking you crossed the + and - terminals.

Connect the wires first them plug in a new fuse in the amp. If the fuse is still popping, them your ground is bad/loose

i dont think this is the problem - it was working previously. what i mean be rewiring is that i just unhooked it and put it back into the same terminal - i thought it was just loose at first.

The spark thing sometimes happens when you are connecting the wire.

First thing I would check is the fuses. There is probably 1 (or more) on the amp itself, as well as a fuse somewhere along the power cable, most likely close to the battery.

I'd say blown fuse.

My old mtx used to blow the fuse on cold days if I didn't slowly turn the bass control up.

Not for me. Professional install twice. Lol.

Shitty fuses. I actually spent some money on a good one and it stopped happening.

Then loose connections.

Likely the case... Check the remote turn on lead at the deck. Depending on how it was connected it may have come a little loose.
Everything else seems to be connected just fine.
