is it normal for my front control arms (bushings),and rear trailing arms (bushings) to be worn as the dealer told me that they should be replaced soon. They want $400 in parts and $400 for labour.I have a 08 sedan with 82k.No dirt roads, driven normal.I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks,Mike from Nova Scotia

those are parts that really dont have an " expected life " like tires or brakes which is still an average. i have seen bushings and control arms replaced earlier and later then your km, if you are concerned about the recommendations ask them to show you the worn parts. but it is not an uncommon repair, but it wouldnt hurt to see them and see the condition and play so you can estimate the time for youself.

Might be a stupid question, but wouldn't this be covered under warranty?

Yes it is normal for the bushings to wear out, they're rubber afterwards, and it greatly varies when they wear put.
The question is, what makes you think the dealer is right? Did they show you those bushings? Do you hear clunking sound ebery time you hit a bump or go over speed bumps? If no, and the car drives normal with no unusual sounds, I would leave them alone.

the fronts should show obvious signs of wear and play, the rear trailing arm bushings can be shown by using a pry bar, to show the play and movement in the bushing. they could be warranty depending on the warranty start date. but i figured i the OP would have asked and i didnt need to but that is also possible.
