Till Jan 2012 it will be a full year for my Mazda 3. Got a phone call by a nice lady reminding me maintenance. Asked how much, she quoted 210. I was shocked as I only paid 40 bucks for each of last two maintenance covering some regular checkups. She explained beside all the regular works, most of time will spend on brake cleaning.
Wonder was it true that one year servie costs much more? My car only drives around 9k kilometers and I did my first two maintenances on time. I am completely a newbie on car and not sure if I need to turn around to try other shops.
Thanks for your advice and happy new year!

some of those prices from our location have also increased as our labor rate has gone up slightly. but as mentioned you do not have to perform any services on your vehicle. you dont even need to change the oil if you really dont want to, but if you have a failure in the part when under warranty and it is due to lack of maintenance on that part then yes it can be declined from warranty. if you have any further questions please let me know, the 48k, 72k, 96, and 120k increase in cost as the vehicle ages with services and inspections performed. as in the 120k service where the spark plugs are replaced is usually the most expensive service for the vehicle, outside of other required repairs.
PR3Y11, its not that the dealership is going to " rape your wallet" as i mentioned in the other thread these are services that are put together by mazda canada at a cheaper cost to the customer. a dealership will never be able to compete with the cost of a small garage or Privately owned shop, our labor rate is $106 per hour. some shops are half or less than half so it makes it hard or impossible to compete. where we complete the service for around $222 with tax a private shop could complete this service for $157.
but again if you have any questions please let me know and i will try my best as always to help.

The 1 year maintenance is also due at 24k kms. I just recently got this service done at my local mazda dealership and paid around $230 after tax. I actually waited until I hit 24k kms instead of the 1 year, and the car is almost 2 years old.
I do prefer to take my car to a dealership for regular maintenance. At least if they screw it up, its on record and will probably own up to it and there is a smaller chance at screwing it up anyways since the techs there only work on Mazdas. At a small garage, you pay for what you get sometimes.

My 1 year maintenance is coming up as well and Maple Mazda called me to come in for service. When I heard the estimated price ($220), I wasn't too happy. The guy explained a bunch of things but most of the cost is the labour work on the brake inspection. I actually forget what the warranties on my car when I bought it last year, but I remember not purchasing anything extra. Is this actually necessary? Can I just bring it in and have them do only the services that cover the warranties? I heard from a couple of people that only paid about $60-80. Another friend brought it to his local mechanic instead and had it done for much cheaper...but then again I understand you pay for what you get kinda thing and I'm sure Mazda at least guarantees their inspection and stuff.

You can get just the oil change done if you so wish. But if something, say the brakes for example, start to fail, and they notice.... Hmmmm this guy didn't get them looked at during the 1 year inspection, you are SOL in that category. Can you bring it to a licensed mechanic, probably, but it may be a bit of a hassle down the road.

The one year, every 24,000km maintenance includes the brake service. If the dealer does it correctly, they will actually remove the pads, clean the entire braking system of dust, rust and carbon deposits and then reassemble and lubricate, including the caliper sliding pins. It should take 45min to an hour or more on the brakes alone depending on the tech, their level of detail and the condition of the brakes.
The rest of the service is just an oil and filter change, tire rotation, multi-point inspection with chassis bolt tightening if needed and hinge lubrication. The dealer rates are expensive for this, but pretty much all dealer service is.
Is it worth it? Yes.
When your brakes seize onto the rotor and then need replacing, this service is a lot cheaper in the long run. Don't fark around with brakes or tires.
Better yet, just take the car to Jim at Street Performance and pay significantly less for what will be a better service and overall brake job.

Thanks. I'm keeping my options open for now and will shop around at a few places before I take it in to my dealership. I hope they can do just of a good job as them.

Thanks man, I just think its sorta stupid how they write it in their books or not that I came for the one year inspection. Like, if I go to another mechanic for the inspection and then come back a year later or whenever when I have issues with my car, they'll hold it against me. Correct me if I'm wrong if it has to do with warranty.

NP. If you keep your receipts from any licensed shop, Mazda won't have any issue.
