So I've been thinking about getting a remote start for my car, which would be awesome to get those seat heaters going during the winter. However I don't really want to add another key fob to my flip key, I already love that it is smaller than my 07 key/fob combo. Since there is no option for the OEM smart key system on GS, I started looking for an aftermarket solution - with the hope of getting both a smart key and remote start system in one.

I found this (http://www.auto-innovatio.com/magento/english/smart-system-st800-smart-key-security/dw-tech-st800-for-all-makes-and-models.html), and wondered if anyone else has heard of it or would be interested in it? The price seems very reasonable ($320 from Amazon, $360 direct) and although the installation looks fairly involved, I'm guessing most of the wires are the same things that would be involved in other aftermarket security/starter systems too?

ST-800 Smart System

The remote fob has a transponder which is detected by the main unit wirelessly,
when you're within the Smart Key detection zone range, confirming that you have the keys on you.
The car will then go into unlock standby when it recognizes tranponders' security code it fully unlocks,
allowing you to enter the car. Once inside, the transponder transmits a security code which deactivates
the immobilizer, the car is then ready to be started.
We use LFID(low frequency identification) technology. Just walk close to your car then ST800 will
communicate with the remote fob and lock and unlock automatically.
ST800 will make your car much more convenient to use. KEYLESS GO (PUSH START)
When transponder transmits a security code and deactivates the immobilizer,
the car is now ready to start. You can simply push the button to start the car.
Without the ST800 fob the car will not start.

One caveat - to get around the factory immobilizer, they have a bypass module which looks like you need to sacrifice a key (i.e. cut it). I think this means a 3rd key from the dealer should be purchased, programmed for the car, and then cut for this bypass, so extra cost there.

What does a typical security/starter system installation usually cost? To get a ballpark figure in my head.

Security/starter system installation is going to cost roughly $150ish up to $200, depending on what's hooked up. Some places will charge extra for hooking up extras like AUX features etc.

There are a number of reviews from G35, 350Z, and Acura owners out there. Apparently the customer support from the seller is very good, with detailed explanations about how to resolve installation problems. However it is a relatively complicated install, and not a system most installers have likely seen before, so best to find someone experienced who can troubleshoot well.

As for the third key needed.

Can't you eBay one and program it yourself since you have 2 keys?

Yes, I think you can. Actually I think you may have to do two things with the key; 1) put the recognized transponder bit in their bypass module, and 2) put the key part in the ignition switch and turn it to ACC so the steering wheel doesn't lock while driving.

I'm on my phone so I can't find it but I remember a post on here about bypassing the key chip sensor to use a non chipped key, ( still need the chip though to wire it to the ignition)

As for the steering wheel lock I'm sure during design that must have been looked at and incorporated. Probably not much of a worry.
