hey guys so im kinda new to this site and the car audio thing. my dad gave me some audio stuff he had in his 300z back in the 90s. I have 2 amps, 1 is a ppi 2 ch 150watts, and the other is a rockford fosgate 4ch 300watts. i also have two JL 10w6 subs that pump out 300watts rms. just wondering which amp i should run the subs through, keeping in mind i will be purchasing 4 door speakers soon.

I would go with the fosgate, but I don't see why you couldn't run both amps. Just get a capacitor so you don't run low on juice while you're driving ;) haha. It's basically just another "battery" for your audio equipment to run off of so there isn't so much stress on your battery or alternator.

yeahh thats what the guy at futureshop was telling me. But if i run the subs through the fosgate how and where would i connect the speaker cables to?

I don't know exactly because I was never too smart when it came to electrical stuff...but my logic would be that amps are power suppliers to your sub and speakers.

the 4 channel means 4 channels lol one speaker on each channel and that 150 watt amp is too small for those subs if there 300 rms lol its under sized by 450 watts and will burn out the amp

That's what I was thinking actually. You'll need a bigger amp

i have two JBLs 1200 watts and like 550 rms and i have a 1000 watt rms mono (sub amp only) and you wanna make sure you run the right size cables so you dont have a fire for under sized, id say if you dont know what your doing id bring it to audio heavn or selection sound future shop know nothing

What is your subwoofer specs? ohms? dual voice coilover?
Subwoofers require a mono block amp for best performance.
Also capacitor is a waste of money period, self experience proves it does nothing for an audio system but look pretty.

^^^^ + 1 on the Cap statement
Unless youre running some heavy RMS power, you dont need a cap
I would say 95% of the (1-2 farad) caps are mainly for looks

You're better off beefing up / adding ground wires

from what i've researched its the older JL 10W6 and it handles 300 watts RMS. Dont really know anything else other than that..also the subs are slightly over 20 years old

Located in Mississauga on the Southeast corner of Milcreek and Derry Road.
They do great work I had a previous sound system installed by them and it ran for years problem-free.

Well it all depends on what you really want.
How much are you willing to spend?
What do you want to accomplish from an audio system?
I have a buddy working out of his shop that helped me out with mine.
Custom pillars, sub boxes, vinyl, etc.
Let me know

I'd go with some newer components. Just a price range...I just put an all new system in my brother's for around $450USD and it bumps.
