For the past few weeks there's been an egg/sulphur smell when I'm driving the car. You can especially smell it in the back. I've tried different grades of gasoline to see if that would fix the problem but still no luck. As well the engine light has come on twice and turned off within that same timeframe.
Last night I took the car to Whitby Mazda since it's still under warranty (it has 13,000 kms) to see if they could find out the problem.
They ran all the tests on it and said everything passes and there's nothing they can do. I said that this can't be normal and that there must be an issue with the car. They said they can't do anything more about it and that I should contact Mazda Canada now since they can't replace anything if the computer tests are not indicating any problems.
Has anyone had this problem or any suggestions on what to do next? I'm not sure if the engine light coming on is related to the smell?
I find it hard to believe that an egg smell coming from the car is a normal thing.

Tends to be an issue with the cats/gas if your getting that kind of smell.
Do you fill up at the same location everytime?
Has the smell been this tank of gas only?
Try a different gas station next time and see if that cures the problem.

I've tried pretty much all the different gas stations and it's been going on for several weeks now. Not really sure what to do as the dealership pretty much said they don't see anything wrong with the car.

sounds like you might need a new catalytic convertor

i've had the same problem, its really noticeable when it's cold outside. i've run husky through the tank for 3 consecutive fill-ups and the smell isn't as strong...give that a try if you haven't already. not the best fix, but until there's a "problem" for a mazda dealership to diagnose and fix, nothing will happen

So I took the car on Thursday to Whitby Mazda, and they ran their tests and said there is absolutely nothing wrong with the car. Despite the fact that I can smell it when driving. They advised me to call Mazda customer service.
I called them this morning and they said that there is nothing wrong with the car and that I now need to use one specific kind of gas for the next 3 months and record when it happens. From there I should then bring it back to the dealership.
3 months?? Really?? Would you say this is normal? They really offered no help at all.

Farting when you drive?
Can't expect Mazda to pay for something their techs are unable to source or duplicate. They seem to be willing to help by trouble shooting. Keep us posted.

I've had the same issue for awhile now. Mazda wants the dealership to run my car with their MDS computer hooked up to try and find the source of the smell since "burning the converters" didn't work. hard part is trying to find the exact process to produce the smell so that the techs can follow it with the computer hooked up.

Did the dealer explain to you why the engine light came on?

I just posted this topic again. I've just had my catalytic converter replaced in the winter and the issue is worse. I smell it at least 10 times a day. I've also tried several different gas companies all with no luck. Time to call CAMVAP

I've noticed some posts other places regarding egg smells, engine lights, and a system that recirculates small amounts of exhaust back into the intake. IF your car has this system (I don't know if it does), then it sounds like there could be a leak/loose part? I know having this disconnected/not properly connected will trip a CEL so this may be related to both problems?
