Hello,

I apologize if I am posting in the wrong spot, still trying to get a grasp on this style of forum. Anyways,

I am driving a 2011 Mazda 3, bought it back in September and for about a month I've put up with this annoying vibrating coming from my drivers window. This only happens when I have music on with bass. I am able to adjust the window a slight amount to stop the vibrating, but when it is completely sealed in the closed position, the window vibrates like crazy to the bass.

Has anyone had this issue before?
What steps should I take?

Thank you for your help.

Does it primarily happen when it's cold out?
When your car is cold.... it's gunna rattle.
You can take a peak up there when the window is rolled down to see if a bit of the padding is missing.
Also bass = rattle.
If you want your bass, you're going to have to deal with rattle.
Or just turn the music up so you don't hear the rattle :music:huge smile

Thanks for the quick reply!

I don't think this should be happening..I originally thought the cold was the cause as it happened when it got cold out.. but no other window does this.

I don't see why a bit of padding should be missing.. It's a brand new car! ugh

probably the screws holding the glass in place are a little loose.... just take it in to the dealer and let them fix it

This could also be it.
If it's being held at the top when you close it, the bottom may wobble back and forth in it's seating.
When it's down a bit, it's not being held.

^ I'll definitely be bringing it up at my next oil change.. Got to get that done probably by the end of this week.

Thanks for the advice.. I was worried there would be nothing I could do but put up with it.

i was having a similar issue, except my window rattled when it was slightly open and if it was fully closed it wasn't an issue. the dealership added padding and it's nearly 100% gone, the little bit of noise left I can deal with, but before it sounded like the window was getting scratched.

question! the rattle that you hear, next time check if when you do hear it. if you turn the music off if it is still there. i ask because my front passenger glass, and my girlfriends front driver window was making some noise, driving me nutts on the hwy, but if i cracked the glass just so slightly , barley a 1/4 of an inch just a tap on the switch, it would stop. open it further and it would make the noise again. i went to work and she called me said there was a noise on the driver side so i asked her to do what i tried and it stopped, so try that out and let us know. but funny enough as i was at work i looked through TSB'S for any issues with the glass and there is one for rattleing from glass, there is a replacement to the parts on the pillar where my tweeters are and in my girlfriends car there is just the box ( no tweeters ) as the part was redesigned and would require replacement if there is a noise from the glass.

It is only when the bass is on. Otherwise, it does not exist. It does not happen to any of the other windows, only the drivers window.

I tried turning off the music when I heard the noise each time, the rattling noise stopped and it only happens at the real good bass parts to songs.

well then. not much more i could suggest i mean i find at more then +2 base at 45 volume or more the only natural thing would be the glass to vibrate or anything else to vibrate. in my case i have my base at -2 to -4 and treb at +2 and have my sub at a lower gain, gets the bass i want from the songs with out that loud rattle and still a very good quality from the stock speakers. as of course it never hurts to have a look but what do you have the bass at and what do you have the volume at when you here the rattle?

When all are set to 0 at volume level 20 this rattling happens without a doubt. Though, my iPhone is connected via bluetooth so it is generally louder then if I had the radio on over the speakers at volume 20. Also, I do not have a sub, all stock speakers.

make sure the EQ on the iphone is set to none and try bass reduction. i find if my blackberry is used its louder then if i use my ipod connection. also set the iphone to no louder than 80-85% max volume as that can also cause distortion. there is a full reason why which a friend explained to me but i dont remember the specifics as to why. but i tried it and did notice a difference from the change in quality when max on the device reduced.

try that, let me know what happens. at worst case, and very possible there could be something in the door itself effecting the glass but at the numbers you have it set to it does seem slightly odd to have any issue as that is a volume i hardly can heard my radio.

2010 MAZDA3 - BUZZING NOISE FROM FRONT DOOR PANEL
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010 Mazda3 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1 BL **** ** 158389 (produced before May 20, 2009)

DESCRIPTION
Some customers may complain about a buzzing noise from the upper part of the front door panel when the volume of the audio system is loud. Due to the loud volume, both front door trim and body panel vibrate causing the rib molded on the upper part of the front door trim to interfere with the body panel, which causes the noise. The rib is now eliminated from the front door panel.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Remove the front door trim from the vehicle. Refer to Workshop manual section 09-13 FRONT DOOR TRIM REMOVAL / INSTALLATION.
3. Prepare (5) self-adhesive pads using a non-woven material (foam / rubber / heavy duty duct tape etc.) with dimensions of 1" x 3/4" and a thickness of .039 inch. (17MM x 25MM and 1.0MM thick).
4. Apply 4 non-woven pads on 4 rib “A’s” on the the upper part of the door trim.
5. Apply non-woven pad on rib “B” on the the upper part of the door trim.
6. Install the front door trim to the vehicle. Refer to Workshop manual section 09-13 FRONT DOOR TRIM REMOVAL / INSTALLATION.
7. Verify repair.

sounds like what adubya may have had repaired. at worst case go to your local dealer and ask them if they could order the parts for this repair for you if this is what applies.

TDSB and Recall are not the same thing.

TDSB and Recall are not the same thing.

so what is TDSB?

Booter22
01-24-2012, 11:23 PM
he means TSB - Technical Service Bulletin, it is not a recall and unless there was a large number or concnerns or problems the TSB would never become one. a recall you would be contacted about. but TSBs are more like mazdas way of fixing the car at many different dealerships. I.e one customer has an odd problem such as this. it goes in the tech finds out what it is and needs to be fixed a tech flash is sent and it may or may not end up as a TSB if there is enough of them sent.

but i think if your having a noise at -10C it would more relate to TSB - 09-10-30M - rattle from front window glass. and not TSB: 09-09-40.

but hopefully this will help you get it fixed. just let them know about the TSB i suggested as it may relate to your concern and have them order the parts in if they feel that will fix the problem.

Hi Booter/Guys:

I have also started noticing light rattling in my 2012 GS starting yesterday. It can be heard with the radio totally off and even if the road is not really bumpy. The best way for me to describe the noise is like having tiny crystals bouncing around metal. The rattling seems to be coming from the back of the car, not sure about the front. It just started happening and its driving me nuts... any ideas on this one? Is it just the cold? Car breaking in? I really don't know what to expect from a new car situation...whats normal and what's not.

keep and eye on it and see how frequent you hear it and if its a cold / warm or no difference during outside air temp. at worst case it never hurts to have it inspected if you keep hearing the same noise.

Just got back from an oil change from Probart Mazda in London.

I was informed that there is some weather stripping deteriorating.
They have put the part on order for me.

This seems odd how a new car has parts deteriorating already!.. ugh I just got out of a Ford.

Hey Guys:

In my case I isolated the noise to the right side of the front windshield and the right side of the back windshield that vibrates. The problem is, it is not a 100% consistent. Some days there is no rattle at all and yesterday there was. It could be the weather stripping as suggested? Or some other barrier material not doing its job? Hard to imagine on a brand new car less 1000KMS. Is it also possible, in the summer things "expand" into place and its a non-issue afterwords?

hmm.. not too sure.

I can see it being the weather as it started when it finally got cold out in December.

I'll let you know if it isn't fixed with the weather stripping replacement.

Just got back from Probart Mazda.

Not happy at all with the attempted repair.

1)The strip of weather stripping is 3 times bigger than the one on my passenger side.
2)The weather stripping did not fix the buzzing issue as I discovered on my way home.
3)The tweeter speaker now moves as the window goes up and down.
4)I took initiative to verify this with the passenger side, passenger side is 100% perfect. No problems.

All in all, they failed to fix my buzzing sound and made things worse.

Now before I go and give them a call and chew them out.. what would my best thing to do in this situation be?

SonicBoom

Man it sucks to hear that. But did they also do the passenger side? Atleast, you can chew them out to stay consistent and point to one side on how the job should be done.

I am going to have Booter from Budds Mazda check out my issue, hopefully we can make a list of everything that can go wrong and avoid it.
