Hopefully I am not repeating a question that has already been answered - checked but couldn't find one....

We have a 2009 Mazda 3i sport with 46000 kms. At 1000 kms, we had issues with the clutch. We brought into the dealership and they said the clutch was just wearing in and that it should improve. Gradually it did. The grinding stopped and it wouldn't pop out of 3rd gear. All good, until last month. Three years after the original issue, and the clutch problem has returned. Now consistently popping out of 3rd gear, and grinding all the time. I have driven manual transmission for 20 years and am confident this hasn't been caused by the driver over using the clutch.

Brought it back to the dealer but unfortunately not covered by warranty and they want $900 to replace fix/replace. Any suggestions?

why did they say it wasn't covered under warranty? are you over the time period/km?

i've only ever owned manual cars (130k-290k mileage) and i've never had issues of my car popping out of gears (everyone has occasional grinding when you F*** up) on only original clutches & tranny components.

few years ago my civic 5th would just pop out while driving. Put it back in an few minute later pops out again.

Took it to tranny place and guy says you change fluid lately and while yes a couple week ago.

he said depending on the tranny make, layout low oil will cause this take it back to your shop. On civic 5th gear was the highest in the trans housing.

So I did and it was low. not enough put in. They topped it up and all was fine

They said it was a wear and tear issue and there is no way to prove it was defective and so it wasn't covered. If the issue didn't get better at 1000 kms and I pushed the issue I'm sure it would have been covered but not at 50000km. All components are new as far as I know, have never done anything but regular service and maintenance. This is the first clutch issue I've had in 20 years.

I think I am going to bring it into a transmission specialist this week. Will let you know what they say.

Thanks Sales 101, going to take it in to a tranny place this week...hopefully it's that simple, will let you know.

My speed was doing that in second gear last year, took it to the dealership and they changed the fluid. Few weeks later 2nd gear was gone, they tried to blame it on drive error but that was B.S. so I took it to the shop manager and threatened him that if he wouldn't honor it under warranty, I would write a letter to Mazda Canada. Six weeks later got it back with a new 3rd gear.

I had this issue couple years ago on my 2006 GT, I brought it back and at the time probably at 60k.

Went on a drive with the technician, demonstrated the problem. They opened up the transmission:

Found that the 3rd gear was worn out as well as the sychro. The reverse idler was also changed.

All covered underwarranty.

Thanks, if it's not a tranny fluid issue I am following your lead. Should know by Tuesday.
