Hi Everyone,

I just want to get your opinion on the information I have received from my local Mazda dealer.

My 2006 2.0L engine has 135k on it and the low oil light has been coming on since my last few oil changes. (dealership done) I paid to have them investigate and they came back with bad compression and my only solution was to replace the engine at a cost of 4-5k. They then indicated that it really wasn't worth fixing it and that I should just let it go until it finally dies.

Is this a common experience for Mazda owners? In my opinion, 135k is extremely low for such a major problem. Vehicle has always had regular service done by the dealership and most recently I paid for a tune up... plugs, etc...

Also, about 3 months ago, Mazda replaced a few panels and painted the back end of my car to repair some rust issues under warranty. It's a shame to see the car destined for the scrap yard when it was just re-painted!

Thanks for your advice,
Scott

Surprised this is an issue on a 2.0L, sounds more like a 2.3L. Have you checked any yards for used motors?

FYI. thats not a low oil light. our cars dont have a low oil light. once that light comes on, it means you have an issue or no oil left

+1 to this.

if you search the forum theres a few threads about this. you can get the engine replaced for 2-2.5k at some places.

I am an owner of the 2.0L and have not seen this issue and I am at 125k.

I have read (on TM3) on issues relating the 2.3L, but the 2.0L seems to be fairly reliable.

Perhaps have a second opinion? if you are in GTA, check out Jimmy at Street Performance, unfortuantely, he is the only guy that is honest enough and will tell you exactly what is issue and how you can fix it.

My previous car was a Mazda Protege and I had bad compression on one cylinder and did 70 000 k with the car and nothing happened to the engine .
I'd say , if it is really the case , subscribe to CAA or something and drive the car until the engine dies if it dies .

yup, that's an oil pressure warning light.... light comes on, it means you have less than a second to shut it off or BAD things happen!

don't go to dealership.. wait till it blows, but keep your eye on your oil, constantly fill it, my gf burns mad oil too, we just fill her car, damn civics,

i blew mine, it was about 1700 for a used motor delivered to jimmy, jimmy put it in, mazda told me 5 grand. not worth that much!

just keep watching and making sure it has oil, you'll last a while, don't use synthetic, its thinner and will burn more.

cheers

Had this so-called Oil Pressure Warning Light appear on my Jetta once before when I scraped my oil pan on ice and broke it.

Not cool at all. definitely would not worried about driving it with a red light on at all times. My engine blew about 30 seconds after the light turned on as I was stupid and was unaware of what was going on.

Guys,

I had Mazda replace the spark plugs maybe 10,000km ago (approx 2 oil changes) It has been since that time I started having this problem. Do you think they could have some how f'd up my engine? How could I verify/confirm this?

Scott

Plugs shouldn't have anything to do with it. Think Mazda advises replacement of them at 120,000 km anyways.

My engine just died too from low (or even none) engine oil left. 120,000km only. Makes me wonder if it has to do with myself or shitty Mazda quality.

If you have no compression and your oil light is coming on, it is stemming towards burning oil and the light coming on due to low oil causing a lack in oil pressure..

I'd go with the change-engine-at-street-preformance option. It may be a bit more costly than having piston rings replaced - but its less of a chance of something going wrong in the near future

I'd suggest you just go somewhere else and get a second opinion on the problem first! Something that costly to repair, you should always get a second opinion. The original tech(s) could have made errors, like with the compression test or never looked elsewhere properly for oil leaks etc; You never know.

+1

someone with i know with a 3 had low oil pressure light come on and off and was told zoom-zoom boom was inevitable (new engine needed). after a second opinion problem turned out to be much less serious and fixable.

+1. I would get a second opinion. 135K is not that high of mileage. Did that Mazda dealership give you any more information on the issue. Top end motor issue or bottom end? Engine needs replacing or just a cylinder head maybe? Any major leaks found under vehicle?

I've had the oil light flash on a car due to a leaking oil pressure swith leaking oil into the connector. check that switch. it's on the right sode of the oil filter housing.
