I have a 2012 GS Sky hatchback. And I am planning to upgrade the sound system.
Here are the components:

Front: Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X1730P (6.5" woofer + 1" tweeter)
Rear: Infinity Kappa 62.9I (6.5" coaxial)
Amp: Alpine MRX-F30 (50w x 4) put under front seat

I have a Kenwood KSC-SW1 enclosed subwoofer sitting around. Maybe I will use it if it fit under the other front seat.

The Kenwood speakers will come with a free pack of Ballistic SSSK sound dampening pads (10"x10" x 2 pcs). Where would be the best place in the door for these pads? At most I would only get another pair of 10x10 for the rear door. (so not going to cover the whole door, etc.)

What do you think about the setup? Would the speaker size/depth fit? Will a local car audio garage knows where to use the sound dampening pads? Thanks in advanced for your help! :)

PS: the choice of speakers is mainly depends on the price (compare to same level of other brands), and user reviews.

You will likely need adapters for your 6.5" speakers, as the stock speakers are 5x7/6x8. However, that shouldn't be a problem as they can be easily made/purchased. I would recommend Audio Heaven, Lockdown or Selective Sound (depending on your location) for install as all of those shops will definitely be able to provide you with a clean and professional install.

Thanks Impressive! Does Lockdown have a web site? I can only find the other 2 you mentioned.

Would the installer provide all the necessary adapters/cables?

BTW, I will be using the factory HU for this setup.

I'm sure these shops would have cables for you. You will need a LOC (line out converter) to run your sub off the stock head unit.

Lockdown is a sponsor on here and their information, along with AH and SS can be found in the forum sponsors section by the classifieds section.

Anyone tried or know anything about the Kenwood eXcelon XR-S17P speakers? I can't find much review from the net. It has an interesting design where the magnet is on the opposite side.

About $600 including installation. The 2 sets of speakers and the amp will cost me around $500 shipped. Don't know the cost of installation.

Another question: some speakers are "shallow mount" type. Can the Mazda 3 take "full-size mount" speakers? What is the max mount depth for front and rear doors? Thanks!

It can take full-size mount speakers yes. Sizes I do not know exactly, so maybe somebody else can chime in on those
