View Full Version : Need new headlight bulbs!

Ok so last summer I got new bulbs for my car cuz one light went out. Now barely 8 months go by and another bulb is out. The bulbs I got promised a 12 month life span which seemed reasonable for 4300k bulbs for $30. So I'm putting blame on King City for not taking care of my street. Its an unpaved road which over time, pot holes are formed from all the rain/melted snow. pot holes are getting too deep now so I'm mad.

2 questions (1 doesn't relate to this section of the forums):
1. What are a good set of bulbs that will last a long time and are at least 5000k? I also want a matching set for my fogs. (fogs are doing just fine)
2. Can I sue the city for not taking care of my street? My car can't take the stress anymore, I feel like my suspension is gonna give in soon. My moms car (2004 Suzuki XL-7, SUV) needed new suspension all the way around after living here for a year and half. King city does grade it from time to time but its only smooth for about a week and they grade it twice a year which isn't enough at all.

I want answers for the bulbs but I would appreciate a yes or no for the second question. Maybe alternate ideas of how to get the city to pave my street. Ive lived here for almost 4 years and still hasn't been paved!

Thanks

EDIT: I am not actually interested in suing the city, just hoping it would be a scare tactic to get them to pave my street. I don't want money, I just want my street to be paved.

Do you have HID's or are you using HID-like bulbs?

Unfortunately, aftermarket bulbs suck ass. I've seen cheap EUROLITE bulbs last 1-2+ years and some 1-2 months. Even with the expensive PIAA bulbs with the same results.

You can talk to your MP about fixing the streets. It won't get you far, but eventually, the complaints will add up and (come re-election time) will be fixed.

Scare tactics doesnt work on govt. they'll call your bluff and They brush you off quick time.

You can sue the city for damage caused by pot-holes. But it's a long process and a PITA.

The OEM DRLs use Sylvannia. I am currently using Phillips ones just to test to see how long they last. Are you talking about your highbeams or lowbeams?

His car is a 2006, meaning your OEM DRLs are wired totally differently (they're in a single beam for 04-06 models)

Low beam, my fogs and high beams seem to be extremely durable considering my street has like 2000 potholes literally. Just my low beams seem to go out every 6-8 months. Always the driver side one. I know its not the wiring cuz before I bought new bulbs I put the passenger side bulb on the driver side and the bulb turned on.

I can't remember what brand i got, ill check now on the CT site. And no i don't use HID bulbs.

Also can I sue them for injury? Cuz i had a friend in the back seat once and i went over a bump and he swung and hit is head on the side of my car (the part near the head rest, it sticks out quite a bit). Can he sue them because if the road was smooth he wouldn't have hit his head.

Found the bulbs i got. I remember that it was $50 now. I was looking at another pair for $30 but decided to go with these cuz it got better reviews.

EDIT:
I just saw that it has a 1 year exchange warranty. Wonder if i can do the exchange without a receipt, might have thrown it out.

I'll post a video tomorrow to show you guys how bad my street is and let me know on your opinion on whether or not i can make a big case out of this to the city.

Here is the video for you guys to watch. Let me know what you think. I am not looking to sue them anymore, decided to go the concerned citizen way and hopefully persuade them into paving the street.

Also do you guys believe that this is the reason why my headlight bulbs keep burning out so fast?

Sorry for the quadruple post but no ones replying. Whats a good brand of bulbs to get that are at least 5000k, how much and where can I get them? Also want a matching set for my fogs. Do fogs use the same kind of bulb or no?

Fogs don't use the same kind of bulb. I think they're H11 while headlights are H7, or the other way around.

Do you absolutely have to drive on that road? if that noise when you go over bumps is coming from outside of your car, I think its your suspension.

Real talks...I'd move. Sorry man had to say it that's rough.

Ya, In the video you see a road that cut to the left, thats my street which is a dead end road. Only way to get to and from my house. They graded it today but did a really bad job. I will probably keep sending them emails till they pave the damn street. It will honestly take a day and a half to do it. such a small street!

And ya, I want to move, but my parents are determined to stay here so I just gotta wait till I can afford to move out. It wasn't THIS bad when we moved here 4 years ago. They actually took care of the road (put actual gravel down), now they are just putting dirt on top which doesn't help it at all! Water can carry dirt away which is why there are so many potholes/cracks in the road.

Thanks for the lightbulb answer, whats a good set of bulbs that are at least 5000k and will last a long time (at least a year)?

Honestly for a halogen recommendation you'd have to consult someone else as I ditched my halogens almost immediately for 800k HIDs which last almost 2 years up until I removed them to use my current setup (OEM 4300k HIDs)

I'd recommend walking to sp3GT (Kelvin) about getting an OEM Philips HID kit for your car...They're definitely built to last and the light output is amazing, even compared to 8000k HIDs...my first time driving on the 401 west with no lights present around Guelph I thought there were cars around me every time I passed a truck because the HIDs gave off so much light I was practically convinced it couldn't just my car lighting the road up that well :chuckle

nope. the driver would be responsible for the passengers injury. you are expected to drive according to the conditions (road surface, weather, etc) presented to you.
