Problem: Car revs up to about 3k rpms some times while stopping.

Trouble shooting: I've tried to replicated it by intentionally trying to step on the gas and the brake at the same time, I can't.

Solution?

i think its extra gas being burnt up. maybe not. Mine tends to do this on a blue moon as well. cant be replicated. just my 2 cents.

Does this only happen when it's really cold?

Nope.
It just picks a moment.
It happens rarely, but it happens.

Have a look at your throttle plate, might be something stuck in it or it is getting stuck open<<< once again 2 cents

I've seen this sort of problem a few times when there is an intermittent vacuum leak in the power brake system. Either the booster itself the the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the booster.

Guys, looks like this problem is being reported by other members.
Can we please consolidate your problems in the thread above?
One of the members having the issue should take the lead on this issue and have Mazda fix the problem at hand.

This has happened to me twice in almost 5 years and it just happened to my wife today and she hit someone at the gas station. The 1st time (maybe 3 years ago) it happened I thought that I had my foot on the brake and gas at the same time and dismissed it. The 2nd time (a year ago) I was stopping at a light and it revved up and I had to really press on the brakes to stop. I remember the pedestrian who was crossing in front of me giving me a dirty look.
And today, my wife was lining up the car at the pump and the car revved up and jumped forward but she didn't hit the breaks hard enough to stop it from hitting the car passing in front of her.

We have a 2008 Mazda 3 sport GT. Auto. Does anyone know how widespread or an actual case would be? Is there a way to check the diagnostics on the car? Scarborough Mazda was no help when I took the car in.
