Recently had a sub/amp installed in my car (Alpine MRP-M500 for those wondering). I've noticed considerable headlight dim at moderate volume. (15 out of what I think is a max of 50?). At any rate, I'll probably look into buying a yellow top a little down the line, but was wondering where you all purchased your wire/kits at? Electrical scares the crap out of me, but I'd still like to give it a try.
I've been quoted anywhere between 160-240 for install, but I can't really see this being a task that warrants that much money.

+1 go to a sponsor or DIY
But just do OP gets an understanding of why the shop quotes were so high...
approx $80 Amp wiring kit
approx $25 LOC
+ 1hr shop labour flatrate (approx $75)

Big 3 makes a huge difference man. Like others say find someone who knows, saves you money and now you know yourself. As for wire kits, I just grabbed x amount of 0 ga. Wire with some gold platted "end links" and that's it man.

Sonixelectronix.com is a good place to get some supplies.
As far as the install goes... its not that difficult, but I can understand the hesitation. Watch a few DIY vids on youtube and ask all the questions you need on here, and you should be set.
You may even get a kind member on here to help you out for a 2-4 if your lucky.

agreed it does make a huge difference... on my old protege my lights were dimming like crazy when the volume was about 20 out of 60 running a 1000watt rms amp and the first thing that came to mind was doing the big 3, once the big 3 was done their was no dimming at all... even when the volume was maxed out.

OP is talking about getting the big 3 done, not an amp/sub install. Just youtube it, it's very simple. Don't pay for something you can do yourself.

yeah i just noticed whoops:chuckle. either way it defiantly should not be costing him $160-$240, i say you do it your self... it should cost you about $25-$60 for the wires depending on quality of the wiring, and like everyone else is saying youtube it.

Don't worry about it too much guys, I'm fairly sure I wrote that first post like 3 minutes after waking up.
Only real question is, where did y'all get your wires/kits at?

go to any electronics depot and ask for some 8g or 4g wiring (usually sell by the foot)
then ask the guy for the terminal rings that match up to them. You'll need 6 of them with a 1/2" opening

I have big 3 and yellow top. Based on ur power amount, a yellow or red top will be fine. Big 3 will be a plus. Work with a budget. Dont go crazy and shell out money you dont need to.
