Looked everywhere and I know there is no point taking it to the dealership. This is my second m3 in 2 years, both had the noise issue from different areas. I don't know how the f$$k are they assembling it. Not buying a Mazda again that's for sure.

My 2012 GT-E started this last week.

I opened and closed the passenger rear seat and the noise seems to have gone away. Try that and see.

Don't be such a baby lol there is one little rattle and you dismiss an entire car company. Every car rattles!! Every brand ive driven and been inside rattles, Honda, Acura, Lexus, Toyota, Nissan, etc...Mazda has actually seemed (at least for me) to have the LEAST amount of rattles (none appart from when it is very cold).

I love how people have no mechanical issues with their car and have a rattle and are like NEVERRRRRRRRRRRR AGAINNNNNNNNNN

hahaha makes me laugh! My Acura creaked and rattled as if there were loose metal balls and bending metal. My friends BMW creakes....

Its a way of life lol...

For me, the rattle in the very cold came from the clips holding up the cover in the rear hatch. I put a piece of felt and GONE.

Well said.

We have had Honda's and Toyota's and they rattle as well. Especially the 06-11 Civic - the rear plastic panel rattles so much during summer, the dashboard creaks in winter over bumps as well, and the windshield creaks/rattles on turns.

No car is perfect, regardless of price.

Enjoy your Mazda! handles like a boss!

this is not a little rattle that can be ignored....I am ignoring all the rattling from the dash thats coming as is...this one is quiet loud. I have driven Honda and Toyotas as well and MAZDA for me has the MOST rattles.
Its hard to be happy when you buy a brand new car and it rattles(LOUD) in the first month regardless of how good the drive is. I know nothing can be done but just wanted to know if anyone else is having the exact same issue and if there is a resolution.

SonicBoy - I tried that already and I thought it worked as well but the noise came back the next day. Jack, spare etc seems to be tight in place.

Why is there no point in taking it to the dealership? You have that adjustment period of 20,000km / 1 year, right? Just drive with a tech in the back seat and get it to repeat the noise.

Process of elimination is the way I'd handle it. Remove the jack, and or anything there and drive to see if the noise stays. Put the seats down and drive, move the front seat forward or back. As Elusivellama has said, it's covered, and if it bothers you that much take it in to try and get some piece of mind.

Exactly what Elusivellama said.....I experienced the same metallic rattle from the first month of ownership dealer found faulty trunk latch replaced went away.

It is the way you said it. If you have a mechanically sound car with even loud ratteling, Ill take that over no rattles and a crap box full of mechanical issues.

Take off some pannels and look underneath them to see if there is a bolt, wire, something hitting metal or the plastic.

Check the area I said before as it was making a loud ticking noise everytime the clip for the cover in the rear hatch moved.

lol, ive had this noise since i got the car back in november, been to 3 different mazda dealership and none of them could hear it...all my friends can, i have taken out everything out of the trunk even the spare tire and driven with the back seats folded down. drove like this for a week and it was driving me crazy, couldnt find where it is coming from.

i wouldnt say every car rattles, i had a 2011 hyundai accent before this car and the car was quiet inside, no rattles, no noises at all...

as for mechanical issues, i have quite a few that are driving me crazy too, nothing acceptable for a 2011 car. currently dealing with mazda canada directly to help me solve this issues since no dealership seems to be helpful.

oh, and probably never again a mazda... if i could get out of this car right now i would do it without hesitating.

some rattles develop later on, but every car rattles! In EVERY car i have been in, my friends and family have owned. coworkers have owned....they rattle. At some point it will.

Not every car is mechanically perfect....mazdas will have major issues, so will toyotas and hondas. hondas engine block cracked on their R18 motor.
Transmissions dying etc....

No every car will be perfect and every manufacturer goes through the same thing. Some people experience big issues while others dont.

hey ZoomZoom_3
Have they looked at the hook inside the trunk lid to see if its secure when fully closed? Just a thought because my car had trunk alignment issues and it was checked already.
Maybe the trunk is unsecure and the hook under the lid is hitting the lock? My car trunk was and still is somehow scrapping the top of the bumper. Its annoying after having my car new since 2010 and is still not fixed.

I've taken my car back to the dealership numerous times and they still can't seem to alleviate this particular issue. I've had my car since March 2009.

My experiences have been completely the opposite...... hardly any persistent rattles in the cars I've owned (3 Mazdas, 2 Fords) or my family's cars (mostly Fords).

So I had this crazy rattle noise in the rear of my 2011 Mazda 3, sounded like a clicking rattle sound, turned out it was the gas tank, there is an issue with the internal mechanics of the gas tank that apparently get loose and rattle. I recently traded in my 2011 Mazda 3 at 38,000KM ..... with its 3rd gas tank. Now I have a 2012 but am experiencing suspension/bushing/creaking noises....honesty....im turned off Mazda

Check the tire iron and jack, could be loose?
Also check spare.

I hear a weird click from the rear of my hatch, only in cool to cold weather. I never hear it in the summer. I took every possible thing out of my trunk; spare tire, jack, and the tools. I also took off some of the trim pieces that I thought could have been making the noise. I still hear it. I believe another thread mentioning about tightening the 4 bolts for the spoiler. I did that but the sound is still there! :bang

For this metal on metal noise crawl underneath the car and you will see the exhaust coming really close to the rear tow hook on the bottom of the car. With some moderate force wiggle the muffler around and see if it is hitting the tow hook. Had this happen to mine, changed the hanger bushings in the rear and she was quiet again. Let us now how it goes

Just a side comment. My 2012 Speed3 is my daily driver. Replaced a 07 Corolla with 80k on it.
Got about 10k on the Speed at the moment. The Speed 3 has more interior creaks, groans & rattles than the Corolla did at 80k.
Dissapointing for a car that costs much more.
