What was done:
-repair all curb rash
-powdercoat
-powdercoat clear

Frist and foremost, I have to explain that JP is a full time student and from what I understand after speaking with him, also working/running multiple businesses, so I was very impressed with how quickly he responded to messages, both called and messaged for followups and progress reports as well as get the rims finished in a little over a week. (I just wasn't available to pick them up until later on)

I picked up a set of rims about 3 weeks ago from another member here (some of you already know who). He got them off of someone who clearly did not care for the rims at all as all four were curbed pretty badly.
I had had rims repaired at a shop in the west end before so that was my initial thought, to get them repaired and refinished to keep the oem look.
After looking into powdercoating a little more I realized it was something that could be fixed in one shot and a finish that would last much longer. I didn't want to stray too far away from the oem look and was on a budget, so metal coaters immediately came into mind as there was an ongoing thread about them with everyone saying how amazing $200 for coating rims where. I gave them a call and they gave me a pretty good price.
Along the way I came across Dave_the_bmxer's post that mentioned he had a friend who did powdercoating. This is how I came across a shop in Cambridge. Since not many people knew about it here in the GTA I thought it would be a great chance to try them out and maybe give other people on tm3 another option if they're looking.

I ended up emailing JP and got a response within the hour. He left me with his number and mentioned I could call at any time, (which I did during my break at work)
This was my first experience with powdercoating so I asked for a basic rundown of the process which he explained fairly thoroughly. I then told him about the curb rashes on the rims and proceeded to send these pictures to him.

JP had explained to me that if the curb rashes weren't too bad, most of the time it would be covered up by the coating process anyway and that even if it need just a bit of fixing he would just fix them without hassle. Unfortunately for me and him, these rims needed a little more tlc, but at the extra cost he gave me, I truly think it is unbeatable, ANYWHERE. So I booked in a time to make the trip there
Now came the time to think about colours. I couldn't really make up my mind and was leaning towards gunmetal at this point. After messaging back and forth also a phone conversation he told me there was a dark grey colour he had in stock with microflakes. He described it as the grey from the audi A4/S4 iirc. I was pretty intrigued about his colour, but had no idea how it was going to turn out or look like on the car.
When I showed up at the shop to drop off the rims and to pick the colour, unfortunately I didn't get a chance to meet him and had to leave the rims at the shop for him, which he had verbally communicated to me. Scheduling didn't work out for this but it was fine. I ended up looking through some colour samples and found something I liked and hoped the dark grey he had previously mentioned was going to be something close to that.

He later sent a picture of something he had just powdercoated in the dark grey.
http://i1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb398/PR3Y11/a9ff7929.jpg
After seeing that, I was sold on the colour.
A couple days later he told me work was to be started in the coming week and a few days in, I got a message saying my rims were completely curb free. I couldn't wait to see them and had already booked a time for pick up (yesterday - Monday)
Prior to picking them up I got a sneak peek at them (which I posted up in this thread as well)

Upon arrival at the shop for pick up, I called JP as he was on his way back from a meeting, he informed me one of the rims ended up having black dots baked into the clear coat (possibly from contaminants outside of the oven? this is just a guess) and would have to refinish it. It was going to take about 45min-1hr. JP offered to compensate me for the trouble and waiting which caught me off guard a little bit as I saw it as a really nice gesture.
In the mean time while I was waiting he brought out the rims 3 were done and the one had been stripped of clear to show me the difference between a non-powderclear and one that had it. It is definitely a significant difference!
you can see it here:

During the wait time we just chilled, talked, and I got a chance to see his beast of a subie, '06 sti motorswap iirc.
The rim came hot out of the oven and set out to cool. It was perfect! We then got everything packed up and I was on my way, excited to have them installed the next day.

Overall I was very happy with my experience and would highly recommend people to go there. I believe a couple people here on TM3 have already had some work done by JP and can vouch for his work as well.
During our talk he told me that textured finishes were available in powdercoat as well as I didn't know before. This got me excited for my winter set up and I'll be taking my rims back there to get them done. Something more interesting for winter though.
I believe the finishes/textures available are: flat, gloss, metallic, hammered, rippled, and I'm missing a few, but I'm sure either Dave or maybe JP himself can chime in on that.

For everyone who read this, thank you for taking the time to read and definitely check out Stip-Tech if you're looking to powdercoat.

I'd like to thank the people who helped get this set up ready for me as I'm loving them right now.
Calvin - for the rims, and making the journey to Cambridge with me so i wasn't a loner lol (thank steph for coming with us too)
Dave - for posting up the shop and his libraries of information on here
JP - for doing an amazing job on the rims
GoForTires - for the spacers
Allen and the SimplyTire crew - for the install (so glad i didn't have to roll fenders lol)
Tm3 and msf - for all the info and inspiration
Also wanna thank Jimmy for helping me sell my old set of rims ;) and Nigel @ ZoomAuto for doing some work for me last minute to get the rims ready.

Here is the finished product: These pictures were taken on the iphone and do absolutely no justice for the finish on the rims, you'd have to see it shine in the sun to really appreciate them =]

it does take longer then going to places like quys or metal coaters but the quality of work is great and the price is excellent

$40 extra for repairs is a good price

Most places charge minimum $80 per wheel to make it worth their time

Oh lol didn't realize that part. Yeah when I got the last set repaired it was 120 per wheel.

I will be posting a review for the Powdercoat later tonight. I guess i could have a mod move it to the first post and change the title or is it easier to just create a new thread
