I bought a Focal 10" DVC sub and I'm getting some conflicting information based on the crutchfield website and what the manual says, so hopefully somebody can clarify this for me. The amp that I'm going to be using is a Blaupunkt VA1400 that is 400watts@ 4ohm. Now the crutchfield diagram for the DVC @4ohm goes as following:
http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/1DVC_4-ohm_mono.jpg
However, the manual for the sub says to just connect one set of terminals to the amplifier and connect any wires to the second set of terminals. Which would be the correct way of doing this?

I've always wired DVC's the same way shown in that diagram.
But I dunno why LOL
Someone should it to me that way and it just kinda stuck.

That's wiring in parallel. Therefor your cutting the load to 2 ohms. If you look at your amp you'll see two loads:
◦4 ohms: 400 watts x 1 chan.
◦2 ohms: 600 watts x 1 chan.
So if you wire it like in the picture you'll be able to get 600 watts but at 2 ohms

I figured it out, I was just over complicating it in my head. Thanks everybody!

make sure if your wiring your sub to run at 2 Ohm it can handle the 600watts the amp will be pushing

It can't, which is why I want to run it at 4ohm.

if your speaker is a 4 ohm DVC like the one in the picture and you want to amp to run at 4ohm will have to use only 1 voice coil...this will put u at 4ohm but you will be using half of your speakers potential. a DVC 4ohm speaker can run at 8ohm or 2 ohm...the only way to get it @ 4ohm is to use a 2 ch amp and hook up each coil to it's own channel on you amp(treat each coil as a speaker)... your using is a mono block...so even if you hook the 2 coils on your speaker to the 2 terminals on your amp, it will automatically be set the amp @ 2ohm output.. check with your manual to confirm.. guys correct me if i'm wrong here.. also what is the model of your speaker it may help us help u...

Its a Focal P25 DB. I have it wired for 2 ohms right now. I'll just keep the gain low and keep my eyes open for a more suitable amp.

Should be fine with keeping the gain at moderate levels. Just don't go nuts on the loud knob and knock the bass boost off.

also maybe keep an eye out for a more suitable sub to match with your amp
