Hi all! Anyone have advice about which double din mounting kit is a good one for an 05 3? Heard that the Metra ones are bad...

I've read that the scorched ones aren't good either though...

Sometimes FS or BB carries custom kit for our cars...their stock would vary by location so trying to find one might be a PITA, but I've heard good things about their kits.

Does that one allow me to keep the LCD above the HU?

Yes, but if you have a 2005 model you can kiss the LCD functionality goodbye once you swap your aftermarket headunit in.

I've installed both kits, if I had to pick one the scosche one is the better of the two.

That's what I was getting at. Good thing I didn't jump on the Metra kit in the B/S/T a week ago...I'm going with Scosche for my kit :)

This is my install and if you look along the bottom lip you can see the soft touch material starting to peel. This is the Metra kit.

Based on how my system is wired replacing this kit would be too much effort.

Where do you get the kit?
Order from the website or find it cheaper locally?

Your system looks amazing Dave.

I wish someone would post a picture of a Scosche kit on a first Gen for me

@ Impressive - I have a pic of my 04 with a Scosche Kit and I'll see if I can find it.

@ Fayvir - I work for Pioneer so I have access to all audio parts for cheap

Does anyone know where to get Metra or Schosche dash kits locally in the GTA? Looking to pick one up for my 2010 Mazda5. Best price I've found online on Sonic Electronix, but it's $50 shipped.

here is the Metra in a first gen i cant find a daytime pic of the Schoschebut if i had the choice i would go for Schosche. if you look at the Metra pic (my car) there's an extra piece around the deck. that piece is really annoying and it doesn't look good IMO compared to the Schosche. ive just gotten used to it but every time im in the GF's car i want to change mine haha. the only advantage to the Metra was it had the pocket as opposed to the Schosche. but if you want to keep your LCD screen then it doesn't matter.

The Metra is good for 04 or 05 models, but since I do intend to keep my screen & keep it functional I think the Scosche is a better option.

@rsquared - try Audio Heaven
