The Devium Dash is a new in-dash car stereo that is built around a faceplate made to accomodate an iPhone or iPod touch, securing it in a CNC’d aluminum and plastic cradle while giving you full access to the touchscreen and all your apps.

That's a pretty smart idea.
But after putting my phone up to my dash I realised.... It's pretty small lol. Any my phone is larger than an iPhone.

Good idea but I agree with the screen being too small. Do they make one for an ipad or playbook? :D lol

Cool idea, but you completely lose cd player and radio.
And you can't use your steering wheel controls to navigate around the iphone

The NAV Free Canada app is pretty good. Can't complain for free app.

Nav Free is pretty good, App Radio 2 is sweet. Thinking of putting one in.
That Devium is still working on development.

Then you may be screwed with the devium or they may make an adaptor.

That's what I like about App Radio, it's updateable.

I would love to has a similar setup for my samsung note. Its screen is big enough to be usefull.

But my current setup works well enough. I bought a $100 sony xplode with bluetooth streaming/connectivity and i have a phone mount. I stream intune radio most of the time, but it works with navi, and videos.

Yes it's updateable and apps are updating all the time to work with APP Radio.

You'll notice that every time you plug your iphone in it will automatically let you know what APPS are available and what apps you have that need updating to better work with App Radio.

I personally like the Devium Dash a lot better. It obviously would allow you to use all the apps your phone can use. And they actually say on their website that you can still use their app or other apps for radio, you don't lose it.

Plus, with the car connectivity kit, you can use your steering wheel controls. No other after market deck allows that that I know of. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/devium/dash-the-smart-phone-car-stereo

They make faceplates that magnetically detach for when you upgrade phones.

Not sure if anyone would be interested but I came across this from a supplier of ours and instantly though of this discussion

There is also this model

This is another model but looks very similar

If anyone is interested in one, shoot me a PM or if anyone wanted specs on a particular unit, I could get those for you as well.

I have no experience with them but it is the same idea as what was being discussed but it's not only already in the market hut it's in stock at the supplier's warehouse.

Fairly affordable in terms of a head unit, in line with mid range single din units

Pretty slick actually, the second two models, you press the display and the dock slides out. Where as the first model, the main control panel pops off and then the iPhone goes is connected via a tray that attaches to the front, similar to the Devium.

They look sweet, but they are single din's. I know the Appradio works and is a double din, but is there a double din version of the Devium ?

I don't even know if the Devium is out.
The app radio is sweet and the SPH DA-100 works great, even better when you jailbreak your phone iPhone.
these simply use your phone as the interface, they do not have their own screen. A double din that uses an iPhone for display would have a lot of empty space or a tone of buttons that would be large and useless I think

Put your CDs on your co outer and upload them on your phone.- problem solved
Most radio stations have apps so that you can listen to them on the go, or you can buy an AM/FM tuner for the iPhone - problem solved

Data cost on fm usage......that's another problem lol

Sounds like Calvin's (loosecannon) idea, but with a tablet. :)

Either way, this is very interesting compared to the usual double DIN setups. :)

Looks like the devium will still be a whole getting to market but they reached their kick starter goal.

I know the units I just posted have Bluetooth streaming A2DP as well as hands free, memory card slot, aux in. I'll contact the manufacturer and see what else they have.

If I didn't already have an APP Radio SPH-DA100, I'd probably pick one of these up to try.
