I'm not in the Toronto area, Ottawa actually, but I know a guy near my end that does do these retrofits and I've checked into it myself. If you have someone do it for you, it'll be about $300-400 for a decent retro. But the results are like AMAZING :thumbsup Light output, cutoff, quality of light....everything! ! !If you go that route, you'll be very satisfied. . . trust me ;)
Unless you know what your doing, or have someone that has done a few before. I wouldn't recommend it. It involves baking your headlights open, cutting the back open, drilling new holes to accommodate new brackets etc etc . . If a retro is really what your after, hit up a dude called McGuyver. He knows what he's doing and knows the Mazda's intimately :No Homo Smiley
Good luck with your retro, you won't be sorry.

I'm pretty sure OP just wants to swap the lenses only, not a full retrofit. In that case there's no drilling necessary. You just bake open the headlight, remove some screws, swap the lenses, then bake it back together.

out of curiousity, why would you want to remove the projectors?? You want just HIDs in an open, unfocused enclosure.....kinda like shitty old honda civics that blast light everywhere with no cutoff?? Do explain.

there are two different comments here.
I think the intent of the OP was merely swapping lenses, keeping the stock halogen projectors, but replacing the lens the light comes thru.
then the 2nd person started to talk about retrofits which would involve replacing the stock projectors with HID projectors taking in actual HID D2S bulbs...etc. no one meant to say they are running with no projectors at all.

I'm fairly sure the OP is taking about the clear lenses offered from places like TRS (The Retrofit Source).
terapr0:
They are not a complete projector housing like you see being used in retrofits in Honda's and the like.
The reason for these is that some of the earlier Mazda 3's have a hazed lense in the headlight. So when you install HID's the hazed lense reduces output and difuses the cutoff.
The idea is that if you install the clear lense you can incease output and sharpen the cutoff.
I purchased a set from TRS myself a while back, but I have been too much a chicken to pull apart the headlights so far but I am hoping to get them done in the next couple of weeks. Although they have been sitting in my basement for about 6 months so I wouldn't hold your breath for before and after pics anytime soon.

McGuyver can do the work. He did it on my previous sedan. Also, if you want or need a set of the clear lenses pm me, I have an extra set I am going to sell.

Hey there guys! Thanks for the replies. however i do want to swap out the lens for my Mazda 3 hatch, as well i want to put OEM HID in it as well and do the whole retro fit thing i do believe. This is due to my headlights and everything being stock. I want the nice clean cut off as well with it. Is there anyone in Etobicoke or near that can do this for me? Also, McGuyver I'd be wiling to pick those up, but I'm always working, so can you PM me on pricing and where your at as well if you happen to know anyone to do this for me for a good price. Because like they say, if your going to do something do it right the first time. and i want it done right. Also below is how my headlight looks currently, does anyone know if i should change the whole headlight and get a new one? Or should i just get a cleaning product and clean them to make it look like new? and what product would work best. Below are the pics of it in the after noon I'll get a night shot after work today. As well if i do choose to get new headlight or just choose to clean them would it be worth it in investing in some protective headlight film so i can stop my headlight from fogging up like that? :)

The easiest thing to do might just be to try and find oem housings already fitted with HIDs
I am not sure about wiring/ballasts and all the rest, but it's def gonna be alot of work.
Best route to take would be to get clear lenses and after market HID kit.
Use extra money for other mods :D

I have a 2006 Mazda 3 GT hatch. However i want to get OEM Mazda 3 HID's on it. Now i'm going to be getting the clear lens for the housing of my stock non hid headlights so i can get a sharper cut off. However, i want a nice fine clear cut off and wanted to know if those lens would work, that being the first question.
2. If i want OEM HIDs? Would i need a stock OEM mazda3 Hid headlight housing? Or would i just have to get the ballast and the ignitor, as well as the bulbs to make it OEM HIDs?
3. If The above question that i asked won't work. What exactly would i need to get or make or even retrofit to get OEM mazda 3 HIDs? This is because i'm planning on McGuyver to do a retrofit to put the clear lens into my stock halogen headlight housing then using the OEM Mazda 3 ballast and ignitor to make my headlight an actual OEM HID. Do you think this would work? Am I missing anything to complete this?

You don't need to retrofit anything. The stock halogen projectors are actually a quite suitable candidate for an HID conversion. Just buy a kit off the sponsors for $70 and install...It will be 90% of the OEM setup for a fraction of the cost.
You can buy the clear lenses from TRS for a marginal upgrade to your cutoff, but again, not entirely worth it (cracking open the housings, etc)

I agree.. only because once it's open, you might as well dip $100 further for a complete projector swap in the flavor of Morimotto Mini projectors. You gain bi-xenon too, and a mighty impressive package without breaking the bank.

You will get very similar results with a standard conversion. It has been done a million times before based on how well the stock setup takes an HID conversion...Your concerns are the same of many and all are happy with their results.

Brightest and furthest output of HIDs is 4300k, NOT 6000k.
Impressive

+1 to both. Wouldn't a 3000k colour temperature kit technically be brighter?

3000k has the furthest output and it's not much brighter than 4300k.

Right, that's actually what I meant (output not brightness). My bad.
Either way, I love my 4300K HIDs and can't wait to switch out my current HID fog setup for some 3000k bulbs :)

@Low&Slow3 - welcome to TM3. I too have the same 3 as you. Here's my install of 6k HIDs from Kelvin "sp3GT" and his quality and customer service is excellent. I've had them on almost 2yrs now. I didn't do the TRS lenses. If I ever decide to do angel eyes again, I'll consider doing this at the same time.
Here's my post from Aug 2012. pics of the cutoff is pretty tight for what you need. I took the pics with an older camera. The HIDs in the stock halogen lenses DO NOT splash light everywhere. It's one of the easiest mods I've ever done - on any of my VW's or this 3GT. Totally worth the $100 (after mandatory relay harness)
