First off,

Any help is muchly appreciated.

I have an '04 hatch 2.3 manual

I went through the car was and my check engine light came on

After arriving to work then leaving the light went off

Got stuck in traffic with my a/c on and the car over heated went right to H luckly traffic started moving.

Rolled down the windows and cranked the heat and it cooled down.

Now my rad fan won't kick on and as soon as the a/c goes on the compressor starts making a vrry loud noise and the car over heats.

The ran fan also wont kick on when the car hits temp.

Fuse looks fine

Everything is connected!

Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas ?

sounds like the fan motor took a dump
replace the fan assembly.... the mazdaspeed3 one is an upgrade and is a direct bolt on too

When I bought my 04 2.3manual mazda 3. The first thing that was replaced was the rad because the fan for some reason wasn`t kicking in when it was suppose to. Thankfully the dealer replaced it for free because I had the car for less than a month. Bottom line: you probably need a new rad.

I had the same issue when I was selling my old 2004 mz3, but for mine it was just that the power wire corroded thru. Resoldering the wire to the fan fixed the problem for free (the mechanic wanted me to shell out 500 bucks to replace the whole unit...what a douche)
Might want to verify that it REALLY IS the motor before replacing.

90% of cooling fan failures on mazda3's are from corrosion in the cooling fan module

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the insite I ended up replacing the rad fan assembly but it still won't kick on.. I don't know where to go know, I've checked the fuses, is there a temp sensor some where?

You need to have a mechanic look at your car. If you're in the GTA go see Jimmy at Street Performance (click here (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?17212-Street-Performance&highlight=street+performance))
If not check out the sponsor sections to see if there is a sponsor mechanic / auto shop near you

Hmm... So it seems this is a common problem. I notice my engine has been running a bit hotter and I don't believe I've heard the rad fan come on at all. I'm going to apply direct power to the fan motor to see if it comes on, if it does I'll work my way back until i find the problem..

This happened to me this spring. I was wondering why my A/C sucked except for at hey speed it was okay. Control module was corroded. Since I trusted Mazda, they said the module needed to be replaced or else. I agreed to the price because the way they explained it, I though the whole thing was toast. $700 later I started asking wtf. Turns out its a single negative wire that gets black wire disease. If you are handy with a soldering iron, I bet you can fix this VERY common issue by yourself at home.

The module itself can't be replaced as its built into the fan shroud w/ the fan and fan motor. $500+lab. + tax is a very expensive repair for a very stupid design problem.

Does this have anyhting to do with A/C as I've currently chopped my a/c belt therefore it's not running. Also where is this wire located to save me the troble of looking aruond for it

In all honesty I might bypass the comptuerized BS altogether and just hook the fan to come on when the car is on...

^^ you don't think that would be a bit draining on the charging system? Not to mention decreasing the life of the fan motor. You could always hard wire it and install a switch so you can flip it on when driving at slow speeds.

I'd go thruogh the A/C spot on the fuse box. I think right now its a 20amp fuse which should be fine (plus i no longer have a/c). Either that or have a direct hook up with a delay for maybe 2 minutes or so before turning on

So you'll have the fan turn on when you push the a/c button? That's an interesting idea, it would make for a very clean way of doing things.

Yea i did this in my old plymouth acclaim when the thermostat was stuck open. but it was different, I wired a conection right from the alternator into the rad fan, then grounded it into the battery. Very simple and it worked, and my alternator did not die

Lol yea... that and i learned how to fix cars just by owning one. It's such a relief to take a wrench to a mazda and know it will work after.

THe controllers seem to die... It's a dumb design TBH.. the rad fan assembly is quite expensive though - about 700$
