Hi everyone,
In my 2010 Mazda 3 GX (sedan), my engine makes a clunking/groaning sound when I sometimes shift 1st to 2nd, and sometimes 2nd to 3rd (although from 2nd to 3rd the sound is less pronounced). However, this isn't just a shifting issue, as the engine also makes this sound if I accelerate from a low RPM (~1700-2400)... for example accelerating in a busy parking lot slowly without any shifting involved.
Any ideas? I had a dealer look at the engine mounts a few months ago when the sound started, but they said the mounts were fine.
Thanks.

It sure sounds like a mount, maybe have them checked again...get a second opinion. Only other thing I can think is that your bogging the engine down, i.e; your not giving her enough gas or releasing the clutch too quick. And/Or accelerating from too low a gear.

OK thanks - I'll have it looked at again. I know for sure it's not "lugging" from being in too low of a gear etc. I know what that sounds like... This is a different noise. Thanks again.

Sounds like a carrier bearing in the transmission..... how many kms you got?

if it's a carrier bearing or pilot bearing it shouldnt go at 55,000km. do you bog the car down during takeoff? There are thousands of moving parts in a car that could be the culprit and its hard to diagnose over the internet - is it possible to try and record the noise in a camcorder and post it?
