Sorry if this is a repeat, I am pretty sure my first post was interupted by a windows 7 pop-up blocker.
I don't have my HID lights but am thinking to solve the brief turning on of lights when you would drive through a tunnel or pull into our out of a garage.
I have this 12Volt multi-function timer that was used to cycle my furnace blower motor and set intervals. For HID lighting, I am thinking to use function 0110 (turn on delay) set for somewhere between 1 and 5 minutes. This would enable me to safely use the auto function as a continuous "on signal" would be required for an auto turn on. Possible issues would be that the delay would be incurred even with a using the full on selection of the arm switch in the cabin but this could probably be solved with an override momentary button that would lock the relay on. (I will explain locking a relay (known as memory) jibber jabber later).
Continued with this, I would probably also lock the relay on until the key power is broken. To lock a relay, you simply feed-back the output, probably + red output wire back to the + terminal that activates the relay. This way when it's on, it stays on until that trip is over. Again, you could wire a momentary button to unlock this, but I don't see the need. Worst case you pull over and shut the car off.
Here is the Circuit with the listing of modes. I am pretty sure 0110 would do the trick but if not, one of the modes should do it. One more bit of input into this circuit....each of the cycles can work, sort of the opposite as explain. The output relay has a normally open and normally closed set of contacts so therefore could work the opposite as programmed. Too much jibber jabber..sorry.
Here is a link to the circuit. It is very well made. I have tried less expensive circuits from Qkits and they worked poorly to not at all.
