So I decided to do my rims black on a Saturday afternoon. thanks to chris @ ridgeway auto for the cans of plasti - dip.

Total time spent about 5 hours with lunch and dry times between coats and total cost $64. Cheap mod for a great look IMO let me know what ya think
Anyways to the pics!!

I had bought 4 cans from Chris and I had one already. Only used 3.5 cans for 4 rims front and back

looks good. I'd like to plastidip my wheels... is there any issue with minor curb rash though? or peeling?

kinda harsh dude...but i'm not a fan of black rims either. I would spray on the plastidip glossifier to add some shine unless you prefer the matte look

Haha luv the prep job, that must have taken aslong as spraying! Anyways it looks pretty good, still it seems (from your last pic) you could do some more touch up on the lip areas to even it out. Looks like there's heavy/ light spots....I like the way the rims looked after the first coat also, sort of gunmetal.

That's some serious wheel gap :p droooop it!

It's a great cheap mod but as Flagrum mentioned, the coats aren't that even.

I think its just the way I took the pic because of the lighting, I can see in the pics it looks uneven but in person it looks good..yah they did turn out kinda gun metal afte the first coat.

it wasnt meant to be harsh, just an opinion. Some wheels look great in black but most do not.

How well does plastidip rims hold up against the harshness of Toronto roads and weather? What about winter?

i've heard they are fairly durable and u shouldn't have a problem getting through a year or more with them but depends on how/where you drive i guess as well as how many coats u put on. If you drive in areas with lots of construction or unpaved roads then it will not last long i assume. The main advantage with PlastiDip is the low cost compared to powder-coating (which costs $500 at least i think). It also looks really nice.

You will always have curb rash with any paint, just avoid the curbs;) If you painted it properly the first time, you wont have any issues but if the dipped is scratch open and after awhile it may collect water between dip and rim and through long period of time it will peel.

Biggest issues is cleaning your dipped rim:bang

Considering I want black with a red ring around the edge I'm probably going to go with Powdercoating. Ive heard that brake dust stains non-black dipped rims.

Saw this on the Plastidip website. Fairly new colours.. Some of you more "vibrant" souls may be interested for your rims or even "blueing" out your majestic rides...

They also have a gunmetal colour

Yep, seen those and they look promising. I know reymando said he's trying to get some. Problem is finding it in Canada or even near the border in the US. The blaze seems perfect for accents and some new Emblem colors :] Wonder how the gun metal would look with a bit of silver metalizer.

Hopefully someone gets some and trys it out

i ordered my stuff from dip your car in the us and picked it up. it was really cheap in comparison. but i was buying other stuff as well to make it all worth while. just crossing the border for a few spray cans doesn't make sense.

Not sure if he can get it but "Ridgeway Automotive" said in one of his posts that he can get almost any plastidip product except the gallon jugs. I havent gone yet, but i plan on making a list of what i want and get a few cans of everything at once so its cheaper and only 1 trip to missery sauga...lol
