You've got a ticking valve buddy. HAs nothing to do with the belts though

That doesn't sound right at all. Get it taken care of ASAP. Could it be the rod bearings?

Don't get too worried just bring it to Mazda, warranty should cover it without a doubt.

If it only has 27000 km on it, the wrong motor oil was probably used to start off with

paulabreu

they replaced the a/c clutch last week saying that that was the problem, noise is still there. I will be bringing it again this week but i have no hopes that it'll get fixed.

lol seems like my car was built on a friday of a long weekend.

Tough break. It sounds so bad I wouldn't even want to be driving it. You should get it into the dealer ASAP, they NEED to fix it. I wouldn't take your car back from them until it was completely and properly fixed.

I wouldn't freak out about it. It sounds like a tappet sticking or needs adjustment. You could always try an engine oil flush/clean and then a slightly 'thicker' oil installed. Then see what happens. If the noise persists, it's under warranty so they need to fix the issue, no matter what it is.

I'm already freaking out lol. I have no knowledge on how to do any of these things and even if i did have. I don't think I should be doing this on a car that is 7 months old :(

Again there is no reason to freak! You don't have to do anything yourself either. I just suggest an oil change with a flush as there may be dirt or some contaminants in the oil. This can be done at the dealer, just ask them. Also try a thicker viscosity oil for the next duration anyways. If the noise continues then they must fix it under warranty. But the noise does NOT sound serious as in a push rod....it's not loud enough.

Forgot to mention, make sure you have everything written on record of the issue with the dealer and whether they suggest anthing or it's okay to continue to operate the vehicle. Just to be on the safe side...But get that oil changed.

On a 7 month old car with 27,000km on it, I don't think he should need to be resorting to trying different oil viscosity. It's brand new, it should be running on 0w-20 without issue. I would agree with this if his car had 200,000+km on it but he's nowhere near that. Something isn't right and even if a thicker oil did fix it, I would be very concerned about the long term consequences. Seems like a band-aid fix IMO and that's not something you want to resort to on a new car.

And "push rod"? Are we driving corvettes now lol? :P

Haha lol, I was half asleep when I wrote that, I meant connecting rods. Anyways my suggestion has nothing to do with wear but possible contamination, the clacking everyone hears is most likely the injectors but there is also a more solid clacking in the background reminiscent of a loose tappet. It may just be loose and needs adjusting with a new spacer but best way to tell is get a oil flush/change. Using a thicker oil, just for the duration (or short term) will tell you right off, if it's simply an adjustment issue or something else. But I would guess dirt got in there somehow, which is not unkown to happen, or a loose tappet.

I see what you're saying now. Considering he's not a DIY kinda guy, I suppose it's up to Mazda on how they will decide to diagnose this issue. Maybe that's a method they will use? I'm not really sure.

I'd be kinda pissed if my car had issues like that being so new. I'd be pushing for a new engine but it's not always that easy I guess.

Well ive been complaining about engine noises since I first bought the car. First week of having it I brought it in for rough idling, then they replaced tensioner pulley and drive belt, have had around 3 alignments done and few other complaints... most of the time their answer is: " its normal ".

I have contacted Mazda Canada on this issue and will be bringing the car to the dealership tomorrow so they send a ticket to Mazda CA. I have been trying to contact the Service Manager and General Manager of the dealership but have had no luck today.

oh and about replacing for a new engine, i dont know how i feel about that... i would be pushing for more if the engine needs to be replaced.

Good call on getting Mazda Canada involved. That's an awful lot of issues on a new car. If the dealer's response is "that's normal" to almost everything, I'd consider going to a new dealer.

3 alignments on a car with 27,000km is nowhere near normal. My mom's Mazda 3 has 230,000km on it and has had 1 alignment! After all that mileage the tires show absolutely no signs of irregular wear.

well that is some different noise to say the least almost sounds like the speed 3s do when the timing chain stretches and is hitting the valve cover, not sure if your coming to our dealer again to have this noise looked at but i remember the last time you were in and it sure didnt make that noise.

but always remember, warranty is warranty. they will authorize what they need to, to have the vehicle repaired correctly for you. you cant "push" for more then what they authorize sadly it doesnt work that way.

sadly alignment can go out from hitting a pot hole on any car. not much of a warranty repair, more wear and tear but its always good to have it inspected at least once a year to make sure it is in spec. and to prevent any uneven wear.

if your coming my way let me know. see what i can do to help you out.

That noise before was the belt. I had the tensioner pulley replaced then and noise continued, then I got the drive belt replaced at this current dealership and that noise went away but after that the engine started to sound weird.

I will post how everything goes tomorrow and depending on it I will let you know if Im doing the drive to Oakville or not.

just an update. Went to the dealership yesterday and after an hour or so of checking the car, they brought me to the back and showed me a brand new mazda 3 and it made the same noise while idling, couldnt test while accelerating/moving...anyways, i will be bringing it to another dealership to get a second opinion

WTF?!?! I can say for sure that my car has never made that noise, EVER! I have a 2011 with just under 25,000km. It's the 2.5L though. In your video, when you zoom in on the valve cover, the noise you hear as sort of an undertone to the very loud ticking is normal, sounds just like every 3 I've ever heard. It's the very loud tick that just can't be normal...

You seriously need to drive to another member's house or have a mini-meet with other cars that are the same year and model as yours and listen for yourself. Or better yet if some members could post the same model and year idiling we could get to the bottom of the dealer's claim that this sound is normal.

Here's my car idling just for comparisons sake. As I said, mine is a 2.5L but they're basically the same.

Now lets hear it with the Plastic engine cover off. It might make a difference as the cover, covers alot of noise. ;-)
But it sounds pretty good btw.

Yeah I was too lazy to take the cover off, I just took a quick video before I left from work. I think if I had any ticking noises as loud as paulabreu's car does, it would still be audible even with the cover on.

Hopefully the OP can find a dealership that will actually do something to fix it.

so I didn't want to create another thread about other noise.

This only happens when in gear in between 1500-2000 rpm's. Im I have posted in other threads about this but no one seems to know so I decided to try and record the sound.
Here's the link: http://soundcloud.com/paulabreuvargas/noise-42/s-eP4VH

You can hear it clearly at 2:15.

Any help will be appreciated
