View Full Version : 2012 DRL/High Beam Question
I have a 2012 Mazda 3 skyactiv and I recent brought a Nokya HB3/9005 white light bulb to replace my yellow light DRL/High beam. However, after I took the old one out, I was unable to place the Nokya 9005 in. I looked at the two bulb and the original one's "base connector" (not sure what it is called) is smaller than the Nokya. I read on the manual that the high beam uses the 9005 bulb. Does anyone know why it won't fit? does the Nokya make a different type of 9005 or does the skyactiv uses a different uses a different bulb? Thanks.

Which part of the base connector (pics are best). Havent looked at the DRL part or check to see if 2011 is the same or not, however check the "Tabs" part. make sure the right tabs are going in the slots. I didnt know for my Lowbeams one of the tabs are larger and I snapped one off. The fight for my aftermarkets were REALLY tight, so try to be careful. I also didnt remove a plastic part so that was another issue I had.

I actually bought the same bulbs, and struggled to get them in. The reason is the red rubber seal/gasket on the nokya bulbs is much harder than the OEM bulbs, and so is not pliable enough to squeeze into the light housing. What I had to do is swap the rubber seals on the nokya bulbs for the OEM ones, and they fit in just fine. I just left the nokya rubber seals in the package with the oem bulbs, if I ever need to switch them back. Just be very careful when swapping them not to touch the bulbs. Its tricky, but doable if you take your time. Let me know if you run into any trouble.
I finally got the light bulbs in by unscrewing 2 of the screws on the rubber ring and then screwed them back on when the bulbs are in. :)

How are the Nokya Bulbs?
I've seen the Arctic blue ones on ebay and i'm now considering them.
Do they really give off a nice white or blue and how are the high beams?

So because the Gen 2's use the same bulbs for drl and highbeam, when in drl mode they run at a lower voltage, and thus still have a slight yellow color. It's definitely better than the OEM bulbs though. And in high beam mode, they appear true white. I got them so they would better match my hids. For the price of the nokya bulbs, you really can't go wrong.

Haha, thanks for reminding me. Trying to figure out what the best time is to get good pictures. Just took some now, will wait until a bit later to take a few more, then I'll post them.

Ok, snapped a few pictures, and realize now that the Nokya bulbs really aren't the greatest match for my 6000k HIDs. The HIDs still have more of a blue hint to them, whereas the Nokya bulbs, even in Highbeam mode, still appear slightly yellow. Now I gotta find something else that matches!

As mentioned previously, the Nokya bulbs give the reflector housings a blue color, which is purely aesthetic, but goes well with my car color.

Sweet, thx for the pics! I guess we are just stuck with yellow DRL for the time being. Although one could imagine future LED blubs overtaking halogens for general purpose lighting in the future, wouldn't that be nice? Nice colours, low power use, less heat, long life :)
