JUST picked up this car saturday afternoon. Was playing cd's fine for about an hour or so after, but then suddenly stopped. It wont load any cd's, so I tried using a lens cleaner but now all I get is a "Check CD" message. I'm confused, on top of that I don't have an AUX option so I'm stuck listening to the radio. HELP! lol

Nope, I don't think it's the CD to be honest, I had just burned it less than a week ago. It started working again today though. I think it's just really touchy or the eye/lens is really sensitive..

I'd say it's normal....I've had my OEM player spew out discs and give the same error every once in a while. It'll usually go away with a shut down and restart of the player. So I'd think it has to do with the OEM deck's programming, as in once it looses tracking it goes into a mode which requires a power off/on to reset. Thats my theory anyways.

Hm, that could possibly be it. This is my first Mazda, I've owned 2 honda's before it. Is it worth getting it looked at or should I just get a double din and that's that? My only concern is I don't want to lose the steering wheel controls if I go after market, and I'd want to at least try installing a deck myself. Are there any wiring diagrams available online somewhere?

It's really easy to install an aftermarket head unit. I just did my first one this past weekend. All you need to do is buy a harness which allows you to clip it into the cars wiring and then just attach (solder) the other end color for color to the new head units wires.
As for steering wheel controls. I'm pretty sure you can get certain harnesses which have all that wiring as well (someone correct me if i'm wrong).

The CD error happens once in a while. Usually after a pause or a phone call. Happens mainly on self burned CDs. I have never seen the error with original CDs.

My 2005 does that all the time.
It seems to be a combination of high heat and burned cd's that you can see light through. I've had good luck with using the cd's that you are meant to either print a label on or draw on with a marker.
