Hi All

So doing the same install in this speed3, the member wanted to keep his LCD screen so here is the way I did it.

1. First off when you remove the deck there are three harnesses and the radio antenna, the harness on the far right with the black fabric tape is the harness for the LCD. Note this as you will re-connect this to LCD when complete.
http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=7651&d=1341974971

2. Connect stock deck and harness back to the car and set the time then ONLY DISCONNECT THE OEM DECK NOT THE LCD if you disconnect the LCD again you'll loose the time setting and have to take everything apart. Just let the LCD hand there while you work on the mount.

3. Now I removed the bracket from the OEM deck (very easy to do there are 8 screws to undo. Once screws are gone just slide the bracket off the face plate of the stock deck will come off don't worry this is normal.

4. On the top of the harness are two (ears I call them) this is what I used to mount the LCD harness back to the aftermarket deck.
http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=7652&d=1341974982

6. Now I did a test fit and found the LCD sat too far forward if I mounted it to the screw holes used for the dash kit so you can see above the engraved square I carefully drilled out a hole that was already there to make it a touch bigger.
http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=7656&d=1341975027

7. I cut them out and mounted them to the deck and then mounted the dash kit on top if them. If you look behind the dash kit you can see the size of the pieces I cut from the original bracket in step 4.
http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=7653&d=1341974992

8. Here is the LCD mounted.
http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=7654&d=1341975002

9. Here it is installed.

Not saying it's the best way but it worked for me.

Feel free to ask any questions.

If it's a metra dash kit you don't have to do anything just take out the top trim peice and install it again.

It's 2006-2009 that you can keep LCD screen... 2004-2005 models are attached to deck

Attached how? Mine was "attached" too with bolts and the ears as dave called them. We just had to cut them off and drill some new holes in the new deck to make it mount back.

Most people aren't going to drill holes in their deck to remount the LCD screen. 06-09 models are separate units and that's what I thought this thread was about...

But thanks for your input...

Also your car is a 2007 which is not attached to your deck anyway so what are you talking about?

Do you mean in the 04-05 the LCD is welded onto the stock deck? Mine was attached with those ears and the new deck didn't have them. Drilling new holes wasn't necessary, just expanding and threading one that was already on the deck.

Dave did a great job btw, definitely recommended to anyone looking to install a deck.

My original comment is cause the Thread title says 05-09 when it should say 06-09.

I have a 2008 and never drilled any holes.. The metra dash kit comes with the brackets to attach the LCD screen
These brackets

You attach them to LCD screen the attach back

so only the temperature shows on the screen? what happens with the 2004 models because they do not have temperature.. only time and audio info when connected to the stock deck

yup this is correct, 06 or 07-09 have 2 plugs.. 1-deck & 1-lcd display.

The older models have only 1 plug or harness, you wont be able to use display unless you have individual plugs

another thing is to make sure u buy a dash kit that has a removable plate and/or brackets for the LCD...i cheaped out on one and it was total crap...now im waiting for the metra kit to come in the mail :/

Where did you get the dash trim for that display? Because i have a 7 Inch display and i can't seem to find necessary trim to fit it in so that i wont have huge hole.

Question. Does the middle area where it shows what function still work?

No. And if you unplug your battery or your cars dies. You loose the time to. ( until you fix it. )

So when removing stock deck, do not unplug the LCD screen? What about functions of LCD, I thought you without the factory deck you loose LCD functions because the control buttons are on the factory deck? Example I have an 09 GT sedan with a metra dash-kit and JVC deck, but now my LCD screen only shows the outside temperture that's it? Basically after reading your post I feel I must now remove my deck re-plug back in my factory deck, make sure the time is set, then reinstall my aftermarket deck all without letting the LCD screen be unplugged. Does this all sound about right? Thank you in advance.

Yep that's it in a nutshell, sucks but it is what it is.

Or you could just have the wrong time for 6 months and the right time for 6 months.

Thank's brah!!! After looking at the pic of your LCD screen still showing time/temp/fan position (and fuel remaining??) I am so motivated to re-do my setup. When I originally installed my aftermarket deck and metra kit I just believed that you loose all of the display of your LCD except the temp?? The main functions I really wanted to keep are the time and fuel remaining to empty. Also your description of installing the metra kit was spot on!!! Because as I've stated I as well have the metra dash kit and it does allow you to attach the LCD screen to the metra bracket/kit. I would like to post a pic of my setup but I cannot figure out how to post a pic? (I do realise how lame that sounds but its true lol)

I just wanted to say thanks again for the tip on the LCD screen! I just got the new Kenwood DNX690HD and when I installed it, I kept the LCD screen pluged in and now I have the fuel consumption (1/100kms) showing on the left side, and the outside temp on the right. I am very pleased with this result.

sorry to bring an old thread up. but i'm having troubles fitting the metra lcd retention brackets. first, the bolt and nut supplied doesn't seem to fit? second, the bracket itself doesn't seem to fit into the sub dash? the diameter of the protruding bits on the bracket itself seems to be too large to fit into the sub dash holes?
