Hi i just bought a 2012 mazda 3 GX and was looking at putting Hid in for my low beam? for the new mazda 3 are they plug in play since low beam is H11? would it just plug directly from the balast to factory headlight harness? or are they the stupid pin connectors my car does not have the auto headlights so it would not be a problem about having the one headlight on start up issue

Thanks

Depending on the HID kit, for the most part they come with 2 wires that go into the plugs. you dont NEED anything else to really do it. However you can buy H11 Housings, but even then for me the housings didnt lock/click properly. Housings can provide better protection from the elements, but you can get the same protection wiring it, taping it and water proofing it as well.

ok so the factory harness will not plug into the Hid balast u need the pin connectors ?

Like i can run the wire from the balast to the factory line harness and remove the pin connectors and the square plug from the bulb and just use the 2 round ones and plug them into the ones on the balast would that would or do you need to use those pin connectors??

then why are people telling me i cant connect the factory light harness directly to the balast? and that i need to use the pin connectors for this ?

tell me if im right

1. mount the balast connect balast to factory headlight plug on each side

2. insert the new h11 hid bulb and connect the 2 round connectors to the 2 round connectors on the bulbs ?

is this right haha ? or do i need to use the stupid ass pin connection that people say i need and people are telling me its not plug in and play that i need to take the postive red pin conenctor and tape it in my stock harness and stuff?

2nd gens use Highbeams as their DRLs...when using HIDs for the lowbeams you dont need to use relay harness...thats why its plug and play...

Where do you live? Maybe we could help and show you how to install them and you will be amaze how easy to install HIDs on the 2nd gen

ok i know i dont need a relay but can i wire them like this? :

1. plug the power wire from the Hid balast into the factory mazda 3 headlight plug that originaly plugged into the factory bulb instead of using pin connectors ??

2. take the 2 round wires from the new Hid bulb and plug them into the 2 round wires coming from the balast??

As someone who has done this on a 2012, I can confirm that indeed this is all you need to do. Period. I didn't use any extra connectors. What I did do is after the ballast wires were plugged into the factory headlight plug, I wrapped it all up in electrical tape to provide some weather sealing.

It's the same for '11 and I assume for '10. The "extra" connectors are optional. I personally didnt like the pins connecting directly to the ballast without the H11 connectors, but if I had to do it again, I would not bother with the connectors.

As for if it's slim or not, it should say. If you purchase it from Kelvin it's the slims. If it's the same engine area as the 2011, I mounted the Passenger side on the metal piece on the left about 3/5ths from the light. there's just a blank spot. On the Driver's side I did it in the same area but mounted it upside down. I'll take pics when I get home, but if you search my threads there should be a post of where I did mine.

Hope these pics are working, can't tell from work. That's where I mounted it, not sure if its the best spot for them, but so Far I have not run into any issues with where the ballasts are.

Way to scare the guy. Not sure how to explain how the warrenty works for them, but trying to paraphrase what my Mazda Mechanic told me.

If the HID's melt your lens or housing (which at 35w it wont) they wont cover it. If your suspension explodes, you're still covered. TBH if something breaks related to your lights just take the HIDs off and go to the dealer if you're that worried. I have the same 6000K in my car and the Dealer didnt say anything, and they test my lights.

I feel like you are over complicating this. Warrenty is good unless the Harness does something and its directly related to your HIDs, I can't think of a practical example.

You need a realy IFF your lowbeams are your DRLs. DRLs draw less wattage to run, and thus can Damage HID. Afaik all gen 2 use Highbeams as their DRLs.

The connection is literally ( I take no responsibility for what ever happens ).
1) Take stock bulbs out
2) Put HID bulbs into socket (do this in what ever order)
3) plug harness/balast into the connector that was on the bulb (red to red, black to black)
4) Tape said connectors in
5) Plug everything into ballast
6) Find places to 3M tape your balasts (Mounting points)
7) Plug battery in
8) ????????
9) Profit.

Hey all, thanks for the great info...I am looking at doing an HID upgrade to my 2012 Mazda3 and I was considering going 12000K to get a bit of purple to match the instrument backlighting...but is that going to be far too purple?

Its crazy how simple it seems to do the conversion, I can understand people saying, "are you sure that's all??" because it seems too simple. I am assuming that for those of you who have done the conversions, you have kept the stock (H11?) projector housings? Someone on another thread suggested "The Retrofit Source" and their HID kits (Bi-Xenon) as well as complete retrofits including a change of the projector. Are these kits similar to what people here are using?
