Those 7" Android tablets seems to be a perfect size and functionality for in car entertainment. Has anyone mounted one in Mazda 3? If yes, where and how you mounted it?

I just pre ordered my nexus 7 and am interested in being able to mount and unmount.... Without the clumsy aux cables...

I did! I removed it though. It was a mount that sits in front of the deck. It worked great actually. The only thing was, it was just a really expensive GPS even then I had to tether data to the tablet. (I kept it in the car)

I wish i had a picture to show you. But it was the perfect mount (I found it on eBay)

May I suggest an AppRadio with a jailbroken phone?

I just need to JB my phone and then it's like one big screen for your phone but with radio and through your speakers

Know if the AppRadio can do this with a Modded/Jailbroken Android?

AppRadio is cool but when I tried it in Bestbuy, it apparently does not support international languages. Other than English, I have songs with ID tags in Japanese, Korean and Chinese. The title and album display on those songs are blank lines. With all the aftermarket radios, only the Sony XAV-62bt supports ID tags in other languages. This is why I am considering an Android tablet.

I don't know, I don't have an Android nor does anyone in the shop and am not familiar with the platform at all.

Would you still have the link to eBay? Thanks in advance.

That's something I never considered as no one has even mentioned it in passing yet. Thought the tablet was for what most people use it for is the functions of anything other than music.

Not yet, I've been waiting until I have more time to fabricate a chipset so I can create a connector for a tablet that will retain steering wheel controls. I was planning to use it as a replacement for the stock deck.

I checked, the seller doesn't have it anymore. And the picture was taken down. :(

I've been looking into this since the Nexus 7 is just around the corner.

Here's something we can wrap our heads around...

As n00b said, keeping the steering wheel controls are key... but for us 2010s, BT can change the tracks for us so its not a big deal...

I have the stock head unit on my Mazda 3 which has bluetooth and aux input but no usb or ipod interface. Have been using an ipod nano through aux input. Considering an 7" android for bigger screen and easier control (bigger). Compared to replacing the head unit, the tablet route is much cheaper. A tablet would cost only around $200 and I can still retain the steering wheel control for volume and bluetooth. On the other hand, a head unit like the Sony with the steering wheel interface and kits would cost ~$500. Of course, a new head unit would be more elegant and better sound. Just don''t want to spend that much as I may trade in for another car within a year.
