I own a 2006 Mazda3 sedan and believe it is the base model. It came with two key fob remotes to lock/unlock the four doors (not the trunk).

My daughter and husband just purchased a used 2007 mazda3 4 dr. sedan - also the base model. It comes with auto door locks however the dealer did not provide any key fobs for remotely unlocking/locking the doors. When asked about it they were told that the car did not come equipped with the receiver necessary for the remote key fobs to work and that installing the receiver plus getting a couple of fobs would cost in the area of $1000.

Can anyone tell me if this is true? I must admit that I find it a bit hard to believe.

If indeed the car is not so equipped what are the options as far as installation of whatever it takes to have a couple of remote activating keyfobs. Note that I have seen the details about programming a new Mazda keyfob, so I don't need this information.

Thanks for any assistance that can be provided.

John.

I will add to this that the 2007 was purchased in B.C. and originally sold here.

Buy an alarm and have them install it in a way that you can unlock the doors with the alarm fob. My moms van had that done.

If its the base model then it may be true. I had a 2010 base model with only the air conditioning added. There's was no remote door on that one. Apparently had to get the "comfort" package to get the remote doors.

If the car has auto locks how can it not come equipped with a receiver? Usually if it has auto locks it comes with fobs.

At that point I'd just install an aftermarket alarm + remote start. You get both features for half the price their quoting you. Give audioheaven a call.

You could try the procedure to program the fobs... See if it actually starts the program mode, then if it does, then you should try it with a fob.

Thank you for the replies and ideas. I managed to find a bit more information on the net and it seems that some of the models do not come with keyless remote. The idea of going through the programming of a fob is a good one and I'll suggest it to them.

If you need more info on how to enter programming mode, let me know. I know the sequence.
