First post :) I have an 05 mazda 3 gt . The night lights are the DRL as well.
From what ive read, i cannot just install the HID's because they will flicker due to the low voltage.
I tried doing a little searching but with no luck. But i figured i could just wire the lights such that it turns on only when the i turn the night lights on.
I was thinking of basically finding the wire that turns on the "amber" color lights, and wire it to that.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or any clue as to what color the wire is that i need to be splicing into!?
Thanks in advance :)

Welcome. Make sure you sign up to the epic photoshoot. Links at the top of page, red banner.
As for the lights, since the '05 have the low beams as DRLs you need a relay with a capacitor that will connect directly to battery. No need to splice on anything really.

I'm confused. You don't need to splice anything.
low beams are H7. DRL/hibeam is 9005
its basically plug and play:
stock harness > ballast > headlight
Should you find issue with flickering; run a relay
and how are you running lowbeams with DRL?

On an 05 low beam Is the drl 07 and up used high beam as drl.
Do a search for drl mod. It will show you what you need. Sometimes it easier to use google and search only within tm3.

2004-2006 we use our low beams for drl so we need a relay harness
2007+ uses highbeams for drl thats why HIDs for u guys are plug n play

Talk to sp3gt he's a sponsor, his company is Imports Tuning.
Ask him for the HID relay harness, that's all you need. It's easier than doing the drl mod, no splicing required.

Read this, it will tell you exactly what you need to do. CLICK (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?40599-How-to-install-HIDs-on-04-06-Mazda-3)
Basically, get a relay harness and a capacitor = problem solved.

I read all the DIY's. Makes sense.
But can i not just take a 35v capacitor and just stick it in with the connection at the original car harness? At the point where the ballast plugs into the original car harness i just stick a relay in with that connection... Would that not work?

Likely wouldn't work that way. Because you're not drawing power directly from the battery, the capacitor may not be able to store a sufficient amount of power for the HID's to work without issue. It might work but it probably wouldn't be very reliable.
Plus if you do that, you'll be hacking up the factory wiring harness which is never a good thing to start doing. Relays are only $12 from garage16 anyway.
