View Full Version : Careless Drivers

Just need to vent a little here:
I was traveling in the merging lanes from the 404 SOUTH into the 401 EAST and there is a section where the lane is in a curve and there are 3 lanes and the right most lane will soon end. At this point:
1.) A work van is tailgating me.
2.) We were both going 105kmph.
3.) There is only 30m remaining on right most lane.
I make a single lane switch thinking that the tailgater will like to take the left most lane to pass me. Instead, he decides to speed up on the lane that now has roughly 15m left before it ends (we are still going 105kmph). At this second point, I am thinking:
a.) Be a douchebag like him and match his speed so he will be unable to pass and be in a very dangerous position.
b.) Just let him be a douchebag and get on with my day.
I choose option b. You know what happened next? Despite slowing down, he was only able to cut in front of me AFTER the right lane had completely ended, with roughly 1m between our cars. You know how on the shoulder of the highway there are always load of stones/rocks? Guess what, not only did he do an extremely unsafe and illegal maneuver, he launched what I believed to be a 5x5cm piece of rock right into my windshield. It was an extremely loud BANG. Yes...it is now cracked. I have had this car for 4 weeks, and I could deal with stone chips and cracked windshields...but to have it happen like this, by someone so careless was a little bit hard to swallow. The van had some company's logo and contact info on it but I don't remember what it was. I was just trying to figure out if it had hit my hood or my windshield or both. Luckily, the body remained untouched and I should be able to get the glass repaired.
I don't expect much, I'm just here to vent. I just don't understand what compelled this driver to perform such a dangerous (to both of us) manuever instead of simply doing 2 lane changes to the LEFT most lane and pass me that way. Sigh....not 10min further on the 401 EAST a Chinese supermarket delivery truck made a lane change and pretty much decided to run me off the highway. I had to break HARD (truck on left, another car on right) and the car behind me nearly crashed into my car. Careless drivers! It's not only you on the road! If you crash, that's your own choice, but you don't have to take other people with you!

Now you should get a dash cam!
It's okay I've almost been side swiped 3 times on the highway, none of the vehicles signal lane changed or even checked their blind spot. Times are hard when you dont have hellahorns.

sort of relevant.. but has anyone else noticed that noone is speeding up on the on ramps anymore. The last few weeks i drive on the hwy a few times a day and have almost had a few accidents because the person in front of me is merging on at 70-80 km/.

because they don't know to accelerate the merge with traffic on the highway..i have to down shift to 2nd to get around these morons.
Also your situation reminds me of some videos i watched about russian drivers..every single clip was an accident...and there were 250 of them. pathetic

Its very unfortunate that we have drivers on the road like this. Its to easy for someone to be attentive only during the time of the road test and forget all about it afterwards. I dont believe that constant retesting is a solution, but it would help keep people up to date on their skills and maybe make them remember more.

The other day on Hwy 7 near the 404, there was a lady with 3 small children in the back weaving in and out of traffic, without a signal or even a blindspot check. It was a good amount of traffic and she was driving like it was 2AM. Basically, those around her honking where her way of knowing not to change lane.... As she got onto the 404, it got worse.... but I didn't stick around to find out or be a part of it.

I see Brampton drivers are starting to leak elsewhere into the GTA.

Yesterday a guy pulled infront of me when making a left hand turn through an intersection... I was going through the intersection doing around 55km when the guy decided to take his left when I was passing over crosswalk. I had to slam my brakes and downshift... and holy sh*t I nearly crapped my pants! I think I stopped an inch away from him then he had the nerve to honk his horn at me! WTF... ontop of that instead of moving out of the way as i was getting closer to him he slammed his brakes so I would have hit his passenger instead of the rear of his car. Never had to stop so fast in my life...

do this all the time. and when people cut go onto the off ramp to try and speed passed 4-7 cars and than try to cut back in. I get infront of them and slow down to the speed of traffic so they can't pass no body

something similar happened to me last night. got passed via on ramp merge lane by a v8 jeep (because slow econobox is slow - i never exceed 100) only for the guy to take the same off ramp as me a few hundred metres down. of course the jeep slowed to crawl on the off ramp curve and i just passed him easily (off ramp speeds are just a 'suggested' limit :chuckle) and ended up out front in the right turn lane. i made sure to come to a complete stop (red) and octuple check for the non-existent oncoming traffic...trololol

It may not accomplish anything but I have created a letter template for people to use and send to their Minister of Parliament.

MPP
Honorable Minister[Recipient Name]:
I am writing you as I wish to discuss driving in the Province of Ontario. There has been a degradation of driving skills and etiquette in Ontario over the past ten years.
Each year almost 500 persons are killed on Ontario's roads (ORSAR 2011), while tens of thousands are injured; these numbers are shocking for such an advanced society as our own. These incidents are avoidable; resulting in billions of dollars being spent on health care which our province can ill afford. In addition is the loss of productivity and more importantly is that some people's lives are changed forever negatively.
The solution to this epidemic is not simple or easy as it requires the co-operation of many institutions such as the Legislature, Ministry of Transportation, the Police Services, and the Ministry of the Attorney General.
Someone has to take the lead to solve the problem.
Some of the solutions are strict adherence to the Driver Examination Marking Guide to make certain that only skilled individuals receive a Driver’s Licence. Secondly, amending laws in the Highway Traffic Act so that they are less subjective to assist Driver Examination, Police Services and the Courts. Thirdly, having the Police Services patrolling our roads with unmarked vehicles so that they can see drivers in their natural environments so that the worst offenders are ticketed. Fourthly having our courts providing sentences to the convicted drivers that are in proportion to the pain and suffering that they inflict on the innocent.
Minister, since driving is a privilege why are unskilled, uncaring or aggressive individuals allowed to drive on our roads?
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
