I want to buy this http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-Universal-PVC-Leather-5-Speed-Manual-Short-Gear-Shift-Knob-/190713394759?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A5&hash=item2c67677647&vxp=mtr#ht_4612wt_809

but Ive been advised by the manufacturer that shift knob is not compatible with my 2011 Mazda3. Yet at the bottom of their page on the compatible list it says that its compatible with 2010 Mazda3 models.

Am I missing something here? I thought both the 2010 and 2011 models had the same shifters. :s

it should fit since its got the rubber adapters. this is how my razo knob fits in. the rubber is actually the part that makes the thread so there is no thread pitch.

since its not a screw on, does it move on the shifter?

well the rubber piece screws into the knob itself. then you screw the whole assembly on the threaded shaft. the rubber acts like a washer and compresses while you screw it on. so it should be tight if you choose the right rubber adapter. and nothing is permanent so you can unscrew the old adapter and screw in another one if you find it too loose

this is how my NRG carbon fibre shift knob installs, with a rubbery / plastic insert and its really tight. you just have to make sure the first time you install it you have it perfectly straight. once you screw it on once it engraves into the insert, so if you take it off and put it back on it will most likely follow that same path the thread made.

i always though it was rubber/plastic? shouldnt it reform back into its memory form? i know mine does that and i take it on and off and switch knobs all the time

mine must be made of a stiffer material. i had it off before and i looked in i could see the thread pattern gouged in.

so was yours like a one time thing? cuz the more i screw mine in, the tighter it gets. which im sure is the rubber/plastic compressing
