Hey guys,
Today I got off work, took Steels east back home, heading west, so this county road was going 80, then suddenly cop pulled me over, saying i've passed the speed limit of 60 (Which i always catch).
I pulled over, and then i wasn't even being rude AT all, gave him my ids. Ten minutes later... he came up and gave me 2 tickets, one for speeding, and one for "color coating obscuring interior" 103.75 + 100 dollar, respectively.
I told him I got my tinting done at the dealership, he didn't care, and came off very rude saying I don't really care-kinda thing.
He told me my option is to meet up with the prosecutor and bargain to "drop it to 6" by telling him that I will fix my windows....
I don't know what he meant by "drop it to 6"
I really don't have that extra $ to fix my tint, as i specifically asked the dealership if it's legal before i gave them the go.
My question is... should i find paralegal? if i don't, and insurance finds out, how much of a premium would I pay? (I have clean record)
So sad now...

Take your tint ticket to a collision centre. Tell them to inspect your tint. My buddy did that and had his dropped.

did you get a receipt for the tint from the dealership? if its 35% or above in the front, its legal.

drop to 6 as in your ticket for going 80. dropping it down to 60. which is wierd cause if they drop it to 60, doesnt that make it legal since it was the limit?

on the receipt it comes with the whole car vehicle purchase agreement, just says Tinted window

Not necessarily. If you read the HTA, it never lists a specific percentage. It is up to their discretion. The general rule of thumb is 35% and above, you are safe. My buddy got away with probably 15 or 20% tint.

then use that? im sure dealerships cant tint windows past the legal limit, and as such ur car is legal.

he told me to bargain with the prosecutor to promise to fix my window, and he'll drop it to a 6. So maybe he wants me to pay one of the two tickets.
Read this thread below, it will help you answer your charges should you exercise your right to a trial.

With that being said don't retain paralegals. Often, all they do is reduce your fine/points which is pointless since you will still be convicted - which is all insurance cares about; whether or not you were convicted. Not how many points, how fast or how much your fine is.
Take it to trial, request disclosure etc. Many things can happen, such as cop not showing; lack of disclosure; date of trial from charge being in excess of 10 months - all are grounds for dismissal. All of the afore mentioned is more common than you think....And if all else fails, you can always take the deal the police officer alluded to. Before your trial, everyone speaks to the prosecutor where he reviews your case and discuses options (you will find out if charges will be dropped or not).

i got a date for my ticket and 6-7 months later i got a letter in the mail saying it was dropped. fight the ticket, it can take up to a year before you show up in a court

yeah im not payiing the ticket either way, I am just debating if i should give it to paralegals or go to the court myself

just go to court yourself. by the time you actually appear, youll have enough time to think about wat to say and present. plus, u got help from us and the internet. fight it. if you cant beat it, then settle for a deal/reduction.

does it sound legit when i say the reason that i speed was because a bunch of cars were tailgating me. I feel threatened as i don't want to get hit and get injured.

it's sorta like when a truck is driving beside you, you would speed to avoid going beside them.
At the time, i was surrounded by pickup trucks, it's a natural instinct to avoid putting yourself at risk.

Nope. not a valid defence.

Just get the ticket reduced for a quick guilty plea, and fight the tint ticket easily with your receipt. bargain with the jp or whoever it is. very unlikely that you will be getting off scott free.

The only possible way this would work, is if you had stated that to the officer when he pulled you over.
As in "That massive blue truck that just roared past was pushing me officer, I didn't want to be squished"
Even then I think its pretty unlikely, if it was a big problem you would have cleared the lane, or pulled off to the shoulder
Sorry bout your luck though, hope it works out

Depends on the cop on that one. A buddy of mine is a metro cop. After he first started years ago he stopped a guy claiming he was speeding because he was ill and had to make it to the bathroom. During the discussion the guy proceeds to shit himself.
No ticket. Paid enough of a penalty. Get home safe.
Best of luck on this one. Following that guide on the red flag forums is one of the smartest things you can do.

Is a defective toyota gas pedal in a valid defence?

If it actually goes to trial, then your only plausible defence is proving you exercised due diligence. The above does not constitute due diligence. Request a trial and read up on how to fight your ticket (from an administrative stand point) in the links provided.

I don't think just because you had the dealer source your tints for you, that you are in the clear.
I know two people who have had cat-less mid-pipes and headers installed (Long tube headers with H or X pipe). I know a few dealers who will even source the parts (from the Ford racing catalog) for a customer.
It may work for you but don't count it as a sure thing.
I would say for tint that your best bet is to either remove the tint or take pictures of the same car as yours with your plates on it, that doesn't have tints. (They may drop that on the spot, if you have it fixed). If they drop the tint ticket, they may not go as easy on the speeding. I would rather have the speeding ticket droppped. Work on that one and worst case, fork out the money for the tint ticket. It shouldn't appear on your abstract.

what % tint do you have? if its 35% and up, what a dick cop. fight the ticket, do whatever you can to get it dropped. then laugh at the cop as you walk out of the court room.

If i send in the request to appear in court, would that particular cop get a notice saying that I am going to show up?
