I recently purchased a used Mazda 3 GX hatch from Prima Mazda and of the 6 cars that I have purchased in my life it was by far the worst experience.
I had a Gen Mazda 3 and was looking for a replacement but was in no rush as my Gen 1 was still running fine. I was looking around and found a hatch I was interested in at Prima. I was open with them regarding other vehicles I was also looking at and they offered me a price on the used car and a "guaranteed" minimum trade-in. After considering the offer, I asked if they could do any better on the deal. They came back to me with a revised price ... and after I reviewed the offer, I realized that the new offer was actually worse than the previous offer. I really wasn't happy with this bit of underhandedness and basically walked away. The sales manager ended up calling me back and after much discussion agreed to live up to his original offer. When I went to close the deal, they then tried to reduce the trade in value that previously had been guaranteed (they said they would give me a minimum agreed value). Once again I was ready to walk away. They finally agreed to honour the original trade-in. So the deal was made and I bought the car.
That's when it got even worse. I went to pick up the car ... only to find out that they had not changed the ownership on the car so I had no green slip. I had ordered a bug deflector (which they did give me a good price on) and Weathertech mats for the car. When I picked up the car I was presented with an invoice for $50 in labour on the bug deflector. I told them that I ordered the part, I never asked for it to be installed and there was no way that I was paying for it. I had installed the deflector myself on the previous car and it took me all of about 15 minutes. $50 in labour was ridiculous !! And the weathertechs I asked for ? Even though I pointed to a model of the mats they had at the service counter, they put Mazda all weather mats in the car ... which I told them that I did not want.
A couple of days after I picked up the car, I used the window wipers .... and the wiper blade part literally fell apart. It was pretty obvious that they did not do the full safety inspection that they were supposed to. I would hate to think what would have happened if I had used the wipers in a downpour on the highway. I called to inform the sales manager and he basically did nothing about it .. not even offer to replace the wipers the next time I was in. I had planned on doing the service at Prima since I purchased the car there but after this I decided I wasn't going anywhere near this place.
A few months later I took my car into Maple Mazda for some service and while there I was informed that the vehicle was not even registered in my name in the Mazda system and that the MAP coverage that I purchased with the car was not in the system either. I called Prima and was told that they would do it right away. A few weeks later, I checked to see if it was changed and was told that it still had not been changed in the system so I once again had to chase after Prima to get it completed. The MAP coverage that was put in the system is not even what I thought I had originally agree to. I sent an email to them about the MAP and they didn't even bother to even reply !!
This was a complete disaster !!!!!!! Even the most simple and basic things were not done and I had to chase them to do it ! I know, I know ... I should have gone with my first instinct and not purchased the car from them at all after the deceptive sales practices that they were doing.
All I can say is that if you buy a car from Prima, get EVERYTHING IN WRITING and check the invoice before you sign the deal and check that everything is what you actually agreed to.
